Re: DON'T STRETCH THE TRUTH !!!!!

And this is no shit....
I once was at the range by myself with an SKS my dad got me for x-mas one year when I was in HS.... The 200y berm had shrubbery growing on it, and I watched a little bird land on a branch right next to my target. This bird was the little kind...like 3 inch tops.. I thought to myself "i'm gonna scare the shit out of this bird" I knew i had no chance of hitting it, so I aimed just off of it. I fired and saw something fall. I was like "no way that was the bird" so I walked down and looked...I smoked him. musta been his day.

little tiny bird @ 200y w/ SKS and wolf ammo

my farthest intentional kill was this w/e i think. about 150y on a coyote, but it was almost a 45° down angle. I aimed low and I still hit high cutting the spine. 110vmax .308

oh yeah forgot the PDs, got a few out as far as 300 or so.

Re: DON'T STRETCH THE TRUTH !!!!!

LOL !!!!! The bird was probably thinking...."He's aiming towards me...but theres no way in Hell that he can hit me from there"....then POOF !!!! LMAO....That was great..

Keep Em Coming...I know there's some awesome talent on the Hide..I'm waiting to see that 700+ kill shot..

I've got the long range kill bug this year...That dang WNRoscoe has thrown fire in my veins with this new rifle..

Re: DON'T STRETCH THE TRUTH !!!!!

walking turkey - 640 yards. I can't remember the cross-wind but it was substantial. Maybe ChadTRG42 can remember... think it was 15+ Base of neck above the breast. Off the hood of my Jeep right in the middle of breakfast.

Re: DON'T STRETCH THE TRUTH !!!!!

A few Prairie dogs at between 1120 and 1240 with .223 and .308: too small to laser and too far to accurately measure given the terrain. Also a few movers at between 720 and 925 with .300WM. All with JLK VLD's.

Re: DON'T STRETCH THE TRUTH !!!!!

One of those "holy shit!!!....I hit it!!!!" shots.

A duck was swimming across a pond about 400 or so yards away. I was on a bit higher ground looking down. Me and a buddy out plinking with our revolvers, we were in our late teens. I had my fairly new Ruger Super Blackhawk 44 Mag, 240gr JHP. One shot, one kill.....grin

Re: DON'T STRETCH THE TRUTH !!!!!

452yd Lasered coyote, 243 win BAR 55grNBT....lucky shot, just held above the coyote and squeezed. Right through the neck. Total luck.

Hope to increase the distance now that I know what I am doing.

Re: DON'T STRETCH THE TRUTH !!!!!

Shot a doe at 604 yards (LRF confirmed just before shot) with TRG. 300WM, 190 SMK, 11 MOA elevation in zero wind (perfect conditions). Bullet went 2" from where I wanted it.

And with an AR-10!! There was a decent breeze, but you SMOKED him! Coolest shot I've ever seen. Barrel-rolled the turkey, and feathers everywhere. Confirmed right at 640 yards on a walking turkey.

Re: DON'T STRETCH THE TRUTH !!!!!

last year I shot a doe at 400 yards (+/- 5 yards).

I shot her with my 7mm mag using 150 grain ballistic tips, and had good shot, but a little high.

I lasered the distance with a rangefinder after the shot... I had estimated the distance at 450 yards prior to the shot.

Re: DON'T STRETCH THE TRUTH !!!!!

Muskrat on the ice. 420yds with a .223 w/50g Vmax. Took 2 shots to connect when I first was getting into LR shooting.

Crow ranged at 417yds @ my g/f's property. 223ai w/75g Amax. 1 shot and it connected to the head of the crow.

Re: DON'T STRETCH THE TRUTH !!!!!

Two shots two White-tailed doe 739 yards. Remington Sendero, 7 STW, 140 gr. Nosler ballistic tips loaded by A-Square. Topped by a Leupold 12 X.
This was 15 +/- years ago, and range finders only went out to about 400 yards on reflective targets, so a friend of mine helped me pre-measure the distance (before rifle season) with an old license plate screwed to a rake handle.
812 yds to the apple orchard and 745 to the fence the doe jumped.
Conditions were calm and we at that time were allowed two doe in zones 1 and 2 (Kentucky farm country)

Re: DON'T STRETCH THE TRUTH !!!!!

Some of best shots were a nice 3x3 mulie at 906 yds (lrf verified) 300wsm, 2 shots, 2 hits, and he was dead. sorry no pics.

another was an unfortunate magpie, we were up shooting P dogs, and I had decide to do a group on a broad piece of flat rock, (wasn't a bad group for the first try) at almost exactly 900 yds(verified by Swarofsky) 150 gr hornaday btsp 44.5 gr of h4895. after making a nice three shot group( about ten inches) this magpie flies up and lands on the dirt just behind the rock, I couldn't pass it up. after the shot, he disappeared, and I couldn't go without knowing, so we walked out there and found him, DRFT. shot went right through his shoulders.

If you look just to the right and up of my left ear, you can see the dirt spot that he was standing on, on the hill.

Another was a doe antelope, 850yds, 300wsm 200smk 62.0 gr H414, perfect pass through double lung shot, even so, she ran about 100 or so yards before she crashed. This one I had lrf verified and actually on video through my brothers scope, unfortunately, Im unable to upload said video (old camera) but it's pretty good. (Video shot through a Nikon monarch 6-20x44, you can see the fine crosshair)

This year I shot a spike bull elk at 560yds. here is that thread.

Re: DON'T STRETCH THE TRUTH !!!!!

Wind never blows in eastern Montana..........grin!

Is'nt that the same spot where whats his name killed a buck at 920?....2.2 hold off? Just a boring little .308!!

Re: DON'T STRETCH THE TRUTH !!!!!

6X6 bull elk, 683 yards
Remington Sendero in 300WM, Nikon Tactical scope
200AB pushed at 2980fps (whoever got a 30-06 with 240s to 2950 I'm impressed)

Would have been 750-800 but my Bushnell "1500" would not pick up anything around him until he was under 700.

Six shots, five hits. Missed fourth shot. We heard a hit but he stood there like nothing was happening so I kept pumping lead through his chest. Could not spot the bullet impacts, which of course turned out to be because they were hitting behind him after passing through The miss was because I began to doubt my wind call and thought I must be missing since he just stood there, so I threw that round just in front of him. Last shot he finally acted sick there was a solid impact sound, so we let him walk behind some trees and stand there for 2-3min until he fell over. Lungs were hamburger, no idea how he took that much punishment and stayed on his feet.

Also a doe at 338yds with a muzzleloader. Difficulty factor certainly higher.
T/C Omega pillared, bedded and floated
Cheap Chinese Barska Tactical scope -- but it's repeatable so I keep it on there.
200gr Shockwave pushed to 2050fps by 110gr Triple Seven
DRT, still got a pass-thru

Re: DON'T STRETCH THE TRUTH !!!!!

391 yds rockchuck 1st shot with my M4 I built off a Bushmaster lower, FN flat top, and Colt 1-9" M4 barrel. 55BT.I was testing the accuracy with a cheesy 4-12 Bushnell. It wears a Zeiss 1.8-5.5 now. Ranged it with a Leica.

Re: DON'T STRETCH THE TRUTH !!!!!

My most memorable was only about 50 yards or so. Was a Partridge sitting in a tree off the side of the road. Shot him with a 50 cal inline muzzle loader. 88grains of fffg under a 325grain ashcan. I shot him off the limb, my uncle shot him again as he was falling.

We walked over and the bird was debreasted so we left it there. But the joke of camp that year was "A partridge with a pair of 50's".

Re: DON'T STRETCH THE TRUTH !!!!!

Several groundhogs over 500yds. Longest Whitetail shot 400yrds on the move dropped in its tracks right through the boiler. All using a 7mm-300 Weatherby mag. W/ Nosler balistic tips.

Grouse w/ a old marlin lever 22 caliber taken at approx. 60yrs w/ open sights. It had been perched in an old pine tree.

I'll add some details, happened to witness this. Bushmaster 50 bmg, 750 grain a-max, one mile on the dot...surprisingly clean kill.
