Electronic Coyote Calls

I'm looking for an electronic coyote call. I've looked at Foxpro ..... but, I don't really want to pay more for a call box than I did for my rifle .... LOL. And yes ... I've used the search.

Anyone out there know of a decent electronic call that won't break the bank?? Something that will actually brind in a coyote.

I've seen these, but not sure if they are worth a damn or not ....... Hunter's Specialties JS Attractor with Remote ..... anyone ever use one of these??

Re: Electronic Coyote Calls

Mutt, You pay for what you get. If I was serious about calling I would go with the Spitfire or something comparable,Foxpro.. You can go bigger and better. I have the FX3 and love it. Get a decoy too. It helps. If you not going to be serious get a MP3 player down load some calls and get an amplifier at Radio shack with a speaker. It works also with out a lot of money invested. Don't think your phone would put out enough volume for good calling and would probably distort sound. Good Luck.

Re: Electronic Coyote Calls

look at the Fextone callers, alot of people seem to like these

one has 40 sounds for around $40 and the echo has 100 sound w/remote for aroung $150

I use a foxpro with a mojo critter decoy

It may or may NOT work...but I know for a FACT the Foxpro always works!

...and buy some hand-held calls, learn to use them also. I use hand-held about 1/2 the time.

Good luck-have fun!

Re: Electronic Coyote Calls

It's not something I can do all the time. Not sure how much I really want to invest into it. But, it would give me something to do when deer aren't in season.

I did really like the mojo decoy.

I'd have to get someone to teach me how to make the different sounds with the handhelds. I don't know anyone local here that hunts coyotes.

Re: Electronic Coyote Calls

If you dont want to spend more than your rifle, whats wrong with a $10 mouth call?

I promise you it will call coyotes.

Foxpros marketing is genius. They've got everyone convinced they "need" an electronic.

Re: Electronic Coyote Calls

Me and a buddy are in the market for a new caller. The existing is just not loud enough. At 100yds with 5mph wind it can't be heard. I want to know if these foxpro's are Really Loud and clear. How far does the wireless remote truly reach (on hills, tall grass, brush...)? Are they preloaded with calls, or do I have to download?

Re: Electronic Coyote Calls

I use free coyote calling MP3's I got off a coyotecalling website and a $50 case creek speaker plugged into my ipod. Works like a champion.

But to be honest, nothing is as fun as hand calling.

If you get an electronic always have a mouth call or calls as a back up. The electronic calls are nice esp. with the remote. The remote lets you put the caller away from you and I like that. You could probably look on youtube and find something on calling predators. I think instructional DVD's would be the way to go as far as your help. Remember the wind most important.

Re: Electronic Coyote Calls

Umm? To answer the question, the best e-callers will set you back serious coin. I have used several but the one I recommend right now is the CS24L by Foxpro. Extremely loud, light weight. Is it perfect, no. But it is the best available with the possible exception of the Wildlife Technologies unit. They both cost a little less than $1,000, but there is no doubt they will call coyotes and anything else that happens to be around.

Hand calls are also indispensable, you need several. One should be the so called "bite call". I also prefer the versatility of a diaphragm call. Two reasons; the many sounds that can be made and you can use it without your hands.

You might take a look at my home page. BB

Re: Electronic Coyote Calls

Muttt, how much calling do you plan on doing? If you are thinking of making a hobby out of this and hunt like we do from dark to dark 10+ days a year you're going to want to get a fox pro. The fx3 and the firestorm are a few of their cheaper units for around 400 bucks that I'm sure you'd be happy with. It gets tiresome blowing on mouth calls all day long day after day and the fox pros are high quality compared to some of the other ecallers I've heard. On the other hand if you just plan on calling a few sets a day a few days a year get yourself a few $15 hand calls and you're good. Good luck

Re: Electronic Coyote Calls

Its definatly a good idea to have a hand call at least for backup. I was hunting this week with the Foxpro Fury and the batteries died after about 15 minutes and apparently my backup batteries were to old. I ended up having to just finish early. I will have a hand call next time just in case.

Re: Electronic Coyote Calls

Never really messed around with coyote hunting before. But, I get tired of waiting for deer season to roll around and want something to do in the off season. I'm not sure how much hunting I'll actually do. I may end up loving it and getting addicted to it ... we'll have to see how it goes.

For now, I'm just trying to get the basics together and give it a try. I don't want to spend a fortune to get started if I don't end up doing it more than a couple times a year.

If I like it, I'll more than likely get a foxpro down the road. For now, I might try hooking my droid phone to a speaker and playing some MP3's just to get started. I also looked at a couple of mouth calls. You can't really beat them at the prices. I'll have to pick up a DVD to figure out how to call with them ...... don't want the coyotes laughing at me.

Re: Electronic Coyote Calls

The Spitfire is FoxPro's least expensive model that uses a remote. It's $200 retail and they sell refurbs factory direct for $150. The refurb carries the same warranty as new so you're essentially saving $50 by giving up the fancy retail box.

If you're hunting west of the Cascades, I would think it would have enough volume (I hunt in woodlands with one and never use max volume). But if you're on the desert side, you probably will want something with more horsepower.

Re: Electronic Coyote Calls

CS24 and be done with it. Very useable simple design. Great audio and easy to use with presets. Rigged mine up with custom dual lithium batteries. Can charge once and use all weekend hard with no issues. Killed lots of critters with it.

Re: Electronic Coyote Calls

I bought a Foxpro spitfire and I wish I would have bought one of Foxpro's higher end models. I went calling a few weeks ago and the remote wouldn't work with the speaker set about 40 yards away.

Re: Electronic Coyote Calls

E-callers are like scopes; you get what you pay for. I've been calling yotes for 15 years and started off with ecalls when they hit the market. Didn't have much luck with the cheaper units. Success came when I spent a little more.

I've tried the top three

Minaska M1 Bandit

WT2030MS

FoxPro CS24 (My favorite)

And yes...Fun with crows too

Re: Electronic Coyote Calls

Hey how was the air conditions ground level when you were hunting with the LR remote on your FoxPro ?
I have found that with just a ' little ' ground fog hanging on those windless nights . the thin layer of Fog/moisture really turns the Remote control to crap . Any moisture of Fog hanging wont let the IR get from Remote to the Call location . Even the lightest Layer of Fog , I think the IR beam sent from Remote just gets refracted and washed-out from water droplets/Fog to were it is a NoGo even under 100 yrd .

Plus I change-out & throw the 9v battery away in the hand Remote about every 3rd hunt . That is the weak point in the remote control is the Battery getting weak & low on the amperage & not putting-out a strong signal to the Caller .
.

Call Foxpro, I was demoing a Spitfire for a customer a couple days ago and I got almost 200 yards away from the unit and could still use the remote. I did have brand new batteries so you may want to check that.

If you need more volume the Spitfire has a jack for an external speaker. I think that the Spitfire is the best value out there right now.

Also I dont think the remote is IR I could be wrong I dont have it in front of me to look at but I think its a radio.

Re: Electronic Coyote Calls

Ya fresh battery is a real big deal on the hand-remotes & working distance .
Might be RF & not IR but on my unit the fog seems knock the crap out of my hand remote .
Now that I look @ my remote it does have a small antenna on it . So it must be radio frequency ? . The weather seems to play a role in way the remote functions in the Range of operation it transmits . I have had nights where I was lucky to get 75-100 yards out of it .
FoxPro 'claimed' 500 yrd. of operation on there long-range remotes but it has never done that range in either of the 2 remotes I have owned .
More like realistic of 200 to 250 yrd. reliable function of operation @ it's peak Best . but Battery is a BIG part of getting good distance . Fresh battery is good & I try to put the 9v lithium (smoke detector) batteries in mine over the Alkaline 9v .

Re: Electronic Coyote Calls

I recently bought a Fox Pro Firestorm. I opted for Enegerizer Rechargeable batteries so I can charge them up during lunch or overnight. First time out we had a fox come in within 10 minutes. It got spooked when the wind changed in its favor but worked in conjunction with a Mojo Critter.

Re: Electronic Coyote Calls

I started out with the FoxPro FX-3. Realized the very first time out that it was really lacking in volume. Ended up sending it back and bought a FoxPro OCC (Open Country Call) from their custom shop. Very first time out with it, we called in three coyotes and got all three of them.
The neat thing was the OCC had the built in decoy. Then they came out with the Prairie Blaster so I bought that one and that is what I use now.
Lots of volume. The built in decoy. Makes for a very nice call. Only "down side" is it is heavy. We do a lot of hiking when coyote calling and my pack weighs about 30+ lbs. with the call, water, food, etc.

My hunting buddy started with the Spitfire. The first had to go back to FoxPro. The 2nd one worked ok, but again...not very loud. He ended up selling it and buying the CS-24. Lately I let him bring his call and all I carry is snacks and water....much better arraignment...for me at least!! LOL.

For me I would get the loudest call you can afford. You do not have to always crank it up, but if the wind is blowing or your hunting wide open areas...it is REALLY nice to have that extra volume.

Take care,Stan

Re: Electronic Coyote Calls

I go rechargeables NiMh in the call and decoy as recommended by Foxpro.. They reccamend lithium for the remote so I thats how I roll with extras of boh in the pack. Easilt get 150 yds with the the new style remote, with old batts.
