No reasonable person would loan a 17 year old kid with no current job $200,000 for a house, car, tractor, bulldozer, or any other plan.
Yet, that same kid can sign up for a $200,000 loan to get a Masters degree in pottery, art history, sociology, or any number of other useless fields of study. I am NOT in favor of full forgiveness, but the university systems should have some accountability.
Maybe a good start is that they list realistic income potential for each major, and refuse to loan more than 2 years salary for that major.
Or maybe, just maybe, parents could guide their kid to a wise choice instead of helping them fail.
