So I got to thinking this morning (save the comments, I know...), and realized that there just aren't very many options for off-the-shelf center fire pistols with threaded barrels. There are a couple of options from HK and FN, but they're $1k+ options for the most part, and only in .45. There are a couple of options from not-very-well-known (to the general public at large) manufacturers in 9mm (CZ P-09 Suppressor Ready (which no one seems to have), and a version of the Walther PPQ), and a couple of 1911s (Sig Tac Ops TB, and Remington R1 Enhanced Threaded Barrel); the drawback to these is that they're single stack (ya think?) and .45 only.

I'm sure I've missed a few, but really what I am getting at is, when are the "big 3" polymer pistols (Glock, XD, M&P) going to be available with threaded barrels? While buying and installing an aftermarket threaded barrel for any of those three is a no-brainer, it's $150-$300 on top of the cost of the pistol (and you now have a factory, non-threaded barrel sitting around doing nothing). It seems to me that with the way suppressor sales have been over the last couple of years, that there is a fantastic opportunity for the manufacturers to offer a threaded barrel on a few of their off-the-shelf polymer guns. Call it maybe a $50 premium over the non-threaded models, and they'd sell like hotcakes.

Don't get me wrong, I realize that in the overall scheme of things, the suppressor crowd is pretty small compared to the LEO market (which I would think is the target market for the types of guns that I'm talking about), but it seems like there would be minimal R&D, minimal design changes, and a relatively insignificant cost increase (if buying barrels in bulk) in exchange for having the new hotness available on the (non-LEO) market. Then again, the pistol competition market is also pretty small (by comparison to the LEO market), and all three manufacturers offer competition-oriented models.

Honestly, I don't see Glock doing it because they have already come out with a few new products this decade, so I think they're tapped for creativity... but it really seems like a great opportunity for Smith or Springfield...

I bought a Remington R1 enhanced with the threaded barrel and I love it. I went with that over the sig, hk, etc. because it came with tall sights. The only other handgun to come with a threaded barrel and tall sights would be the FN FNP-45 tactical, I could be wrong though. I enjoy 1911s and I wanted to carry it so that beat out the FN, which I owned prior anyway. I also have threaded barrels in all of my Glocks and Springfields which if you're going for cost, go that way.

I would guess that if you can afford a suppressor and the tax stamp, you could also afford to buy a suppressor with metric threads. The only problem with that would be if you already have a suppressor threaded for a different pitch than metric, then you would have to work out how, or if you want to mount the same suppressor on the barrel with metric threads.

Are they available in off-the-shelf guns in the US, or would it be a case of leaving the factory unthreaded barrel in the safe while running the threaded factory barrel?

Here's the R1

It's up to you which platform you want to go with but for a 1911 tall sights are like .22 ammo....

Silent, I love it. When wet it's quieter than a paintball gun. Awesome.

HK does as does Sig but they are mostly in metric threads. My tirant came with a 14mm left thread piston but the dealer swapped it for a .578 at no charge. I will stick with the common threads as then everything will interchange easier.

I got lucky and scored a factory Glock 21 threaded barrel when they first came out a few years ago. Then when I saw the tirant come out with the same left handed metric threads available I had to get it. Now I plan to have my factory Glock 17 L barrel threaded 1/2" X 28 tpi and get another adapter to match for use on my G34. Yes the Ti-rant is quite as hell wet. I live in the city...and have a shooting range in my garage. Suppressed is the only way to go.

Lots of factory threaded pustols out now. I think even Rock Island and ATI make a threaded 1911. Smith and wesson makes factory threaded M&P pistols. Beretta makes a tactical version of the PX4. Sig has several including the 226, 232, and 1911's.
