I just ordered one of these slide rule style calculators made by Adaptive Consulting & Training Services and I am very excited. I picked up a Kestrel from a friend for $50.00 that I have been using just fine, only problem is that it is a 3000 model and doesn't display the density altitude. I haven't been able to bring myself to drop $250+ on a new Kestrel with this feature, so to find a slide rule that can give me the information I need for $40.00 was to good to pass up.

I've watched the video with Frank demoing the FDAC, anyone else have anything to say about it? Does anyone know if they plan to make a FDAC in other calibers as well? I am assuming that I will at least be able to get the density altitude without a correction that I could put into my Shooter app when I am shooting other calibers.

Re: Field Density Altitude Calculator

Thanks for your business!

You'll be very happy with your FDAC, I have no doubts that it will produce very accurate firing solutions for your application. You can use the FDAC just fine with a standard Kestrel that doesn't display density altitude, just use the temperature and altitude settings on the Kestrel along with the table printed on the FDAC to calculate density altitude.

We have a bunch of new stuff coming out very soon that will include nearly every popular caliber, bullet, velocity, etc... Should be released very soon, and you'll see it here on snipershide first.

Re: Field Density Altitude Calculator

I've been using the FDAC pretty regularly since last September and it has been nothing but awesome. The data is accurate and it's really easy to use, as you'll find out I'm sure. I was out shooting yesterday and used the FDAC exclusively for targets from about 200 yards to 900 yards and it didn't let me down once. We had a Kestrel on hand that spit out DA but I just used the chart on the FDAC to get my DA figure and between the Kestrel and me, we were within 500' of DA. Getting the DA figure was essentially by guessing at the air temperature at the time, which was freaking hot, and knowing what the average elevation was. The elevation dope that it was spitting out was also pretty much right on too, probably within a tenth out to 900 yards on a 12" X 21" target. Yesterday was a good day of shooting, the first time I'd really been out since before the baby was born and it further reinforced my confidence in the FDAC's accuracy and simplicity.

I also wrote this review for Accurate Shooter that has some more of my experiences with the FDAC in hot and cold weather.

You made an excellent choice in getting the FDAC, I don't think you'll be disappointed in it at all.

Sosicmcise, thank you to you and your company for making simple products for the rest of us, I can't wait to see some of the new products you will be putting out,

Semper Fi

Trigger Monkey, Great review. I can't wait to get a hold of my FDAC. I hope this will assist me in understanding why my groups impacts shift from day to day, and help me to get those first round hits we all strive for.

Re: Field Density Altitude Calculator

You'll dig the new stuff for sure and I can't wait to release it. Simplicity and practicality was our intent when we designed the FDAC so that it would be easily understood and quickly employed by all types of shooters.

In our opinion, as one's experience and knowledge grows, the common trend is to reduce the number of tools and other gadgets necessary to perform the task at hand to just the essentials.

Shoot straight.

That's been my experience as well. Complex systems are needed and desired by the less experienced. Field experience reduces the need for complexity - and simpler tools, in my experience, reduce the time it takes to make the shot.

Sweet....Can't wait to see what you have in the works!

Re: Field Density Altitude Calculator

I bought my FDAC card a couple weeks ago, And I am here to tell you, that if I can use it and make hits out 300, 500 and 600 Yards, anyone can use it. So freaking easy. I had the pleasure to speaking with Adaptive. What great people. Super friendly. He told me they were coming out with something new. I cannot wait to get my paws on one to give it a try.

Thanks Adaptive, for a great product.

Re: Field Density Altitude Calculator

Ive been running the FDAC now for the last 2 months and its been a breeze, After changing the Air Temp and Alt from Imperial to metric its a simple straight forward system. Its data has been validated along side the Bulletflight and ATRAG out to 1100m and is pretty much identical.

Big thanks to Steve at ACT's for taking the time to go through it with me and also to Steve at Triad Tac for going that extra mile to help fix me up.

cheers fellas,

JJ

Re: Field Density Altitude Calculator

It should be 308. However, you can still use the calculator to obtain the Density Altitude, you just won't have the correction for 300wm. It sounds like they will be coming out with more popular calibers very soon though.

Re: Field Density Altitude Calculator

My FDAC was sitting in the mail box waiting for me when I got home from shooting yesterday. It looks like it is pretty accurate. All of the solutions it's producing are matching up within .1 mil to what I needed to make hits at the range. Had I had the FDAC with me at the range, I could have made all of those first round hits, instead of correcting after two shots.

Can't wait to get back to the range; as well as try this out at a few different ranges in other states I shoot at. Also can't wait to see some 77 grain cards.

Thanks ACTS LLC

Re: Field Density Altitude Calculator

Adaptive FDAC is awesome and extremely accurate if your true muzzle velocity is measured and accurate. It is intuitive and easy to use.

I can't wait until the new calibers and bullet cards come out.
