Food riots thread…and energy.

I think that's a pretty good summation of what we're seeing with my little corner of the economy. Everybody is waiting for the "weather" to clear before spending any money on new equipment.
Or making the “go, go, go” decision on major investment projects.

The mega corporations are buying back their own stock rather than starting a "go, go, go" expansion.
Small businesses are building brick and mortar places because the landlords have kept raising the rent. They can build cheaper than rent. Put a sharp pencil to the numbers like tax incentives, a fixed mortgage after occupancy and should need be, property to put up as collateral.

For quite some time here in my little berg, Reg. Unl. was $3.44/$3.49. Last week it jumped to $3.59. They'll break us one way or another. No sense in having a prosperous middle class. Also...so much for all our hard work thru the years. Mac:(

The price of gasoline and other distillate fuels have rallied in recent weeks at a faster pace than the upstream crude oil benchmarks. At a time when central banks around the world appear to be nearing the end of their respective cycles of interest rate increases as inflation slows in major economies, a rally in energy markets could cause concern. In this week’s blog, we will look at the primary causes behind the recent price rises in gasoline and other distillate markets and how this situation may develop further

The Biden Administration’s Secretary of Energy, Jennifer Granholm, held several talks with her Chinese counterpart prior to the widely-panned decision to drain the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) back in 2021.
As reported by the Washington Free Beacon, the meetings were documented in Department of Energy (DOE) calendars obtained by Fox News. Granholm met with Zhang Jianhua, chairman of the China National Energy Administration, on November 19th and November 21st, 2021, meetings which were never publicly revealed. Just two days after their second meeting, on November 23rd, Joe Biden announced the decision to start draining the SPR in order to combat rising gas prices in the United States.

The relentless drive of OPEC+ to keep driving oil prices higher, as predicted by OilPrice.com some time ago, was seen again in last week’s extension of major additional cuts made to the initial reductions in output first put into place last October. On 3 August, the de facto leader of the OPEC part of the group, Saudi Arabia, announced it will continue the additional 1 million barrel per day (bpd) cut in production that it announced in June through into September at least. Russia, looking to quietly sell its oil at a discount to the OPEC+ rate through backdoor channels, as also analysed by OilPrice.com, said it will taper its 500,000 bpd additional export cut for August to 300,000 bpd in September. These extended cuts come on top of the 3.66 million bpd in collective cuts from the OPEC+ oil cartel implemented since October 2022. The key questions now are: will OPEC+ keep oil prices rising through further production cuts and, if so, what can the West do about it?

One thing I would say about oilprice.com: be careful about how closely you read the fine details. A lot of their articles can be contradictory in their conclusions. Example:

They also just started having an AI write some articles.

Be careful when you read articles put out by the US Government employees and sub contractors.

CHICAGO, Aug 7 (Reuters) - Tyson Foods (TSN.N) is shutting four more chicken plants - in Arkansas, Indiana and Missouri - to cut costs, a blow to small communities in the U.S. heartland that depend on the meatpacker for nearly 3,000 jobs.
The company, which reaped big profits as meat prices soared during the COVID-19 pandemic, is now adjusting to a decline and to slowing demand for some products. Tyson closed two other chicken plants, in Arkansas and Virginia, with almost 1,700 employees this year, and has also laid off corporate employees.

So the question becomes: what cheaper protein source is the consumer going for? Beef is high.

America is slowly losing it's position in the oil trade of the world. Oil trading has done an "end run" around the USA and the petrodollar.

India imported 484,000 bpd from Saudi Arabia in July, down from 734,000 bpd in June, according to the data. Russia was once again the top supplier of crude to India. At 1.9 million bpd, Russian deliveries exceeded supply from Saudi Arabia and Iraq combined.

And yet we can't drill here in america.....almost seems like a plan......

Doc
Technically it is a plan dating back decades… to suck the rest of the world dry while sitting on our reserves.

However the plan Was before massive reserves keep showing up.

But keeping our reserves… ours… may prove a genius move even after we adopt more alternatives.

Because complex hydrocarbon molecules are far more valuable than just as minivan fuel..

America will go bankrupt long before it sucks the rest of the world dry of oil. The Chinese are building massive coal burning generating plants, other shit holes are building nukes. Every new American invention of "Going Green" is refined and put into practice by those selling us oil and EV's made in China. America is being sold out.

start a war with Russia to drive up prices, then use the power of government to control domestic supply.

they are trying to bankrupt us. they want most Americans to lose everything, then be willing to give up every right in exchange for not starving to death or living on the street.

some people have not realized that yet.

I worked in heavy industry (Pulp and Paper plus Packaging) in engineering and innovation, saw this first hand. Some thoughts:
1) These chicken plants are in rural America - bet they have terrible time hiring and retaining new workers - as current (aka older) workers retire they cannot be replaced because a) new employees do not want to be in rural America and b) this is hard work
2) So, corporation will build new or update plants where it can hire workers and where it can roll out automation to reduce the need for workers.
3) End state - fewer job opportunities in rural America = move to the city and therefore rural America continues to be marginalized

Agreed. But at the time it was conceived, oil looked to be running out everywhere.

Moody's is probably one of the best "forward looking" outfits out there. Watch for the propaganda trying to discredit them. The offshore money trust Moody's more than the FED Reserve.

Selling our SPR to China? Who would do this? No one in their right mind, so far as a sensible reader can understand. Don’t all presidents put Americans first? It is over, but Biden’s judgment is “bottom of the barrel,” his integrity absent, and motives – especially on China – plainly mixed.

Bottom line: Trying to understand the web of Biden’s unfolding lies, untold stories, and acts of misdirection – is a fulltime job – especially on China. Just keep your tank full, and eyes open.

When the roof caves in, one thing is for sure - No one from Washington, DC is coming to your little corner of the world to save your ass.
Even the Biden voters and the Trump haters in my little community agree on that point.
At that time we will all share common ground..... Surviving

The Biden voters are going th have to survive more than just food shortages….

They will be Pariah’s and targets. There is no room for triggered socialist cross-dressers when people are busy surviving.

Hope they taste Good.

India accounts for about 40% of global rice exports, so availability issues will be significant. Global prices for the grain were already at three-year highs before the ban. This could be the front edge of another round of resource nationalism and protectionist policies. We go into further detail on food price inflation – and why U.S. food prices should continue to rise – in this morning’s Early Warning brief. Food, ammo, securable perimeter, water filtration, basic sanitation, cash, and the will to
persevere, community.

These.

Been ops testing the Grayl filtration system. Impressed so far.
The items you listed have been squared away long ago for many.
A person or family could have a warehouse full of these items and simply be in the wrong location or have a mole in the family and this stuff could be gone in a matter of hours if it was in the suburbs.
The common problem with a travel water filter is finding water. There is a drought in the West and water can be difficult to find. If you are East of the Mississippi water is available but there are many more challenges in the populated areas.
Preserving the community is a great theory. Look around at the community and figure out what percentage is worth preserving.

What is your survival plan ?

Many here will say your posting resembles the chat bots that have been here lately. You should personalize it. Don't sound like you are promoting one specific product.

You are a very consistent survivalist. I admire your dedication.
No one here can fault your plan since not one human has a portal to observe the future.
You could rule the world as long as your bean supply holds out.
Don’t really plan to live long, but plan to have some ass until I die.

Every where I have ever resided (residential , suburb, RV parks, wilderness camping). Someone usually referrers to me as "The ass hole over there".
That's my first move to sort out strangers.
I always get along well with the other "ass holes".
Funny how that works out.
