I paid the 50 bucks because I thought i had to in order to buy from folks off the PX. I’m not up in arms about it. I’ve wasted way more on a lot less and the info and knowledge I’ve gained from this site has been vast.

If 50 bucks is gonna break you then maybe this isn’t the hobby for you.
So have I, that doesn't mean I don't try to minimize that from happening though.
    @CoriolisEffect

You don’t realize it but that $50 to sell or post a
WTB ad is actually saving you money. It’s easy enough to jump on a deal and get screwed over in the px. Posting WTB ad is a magnet recently for scammers.

Trust us when we say that you will get scammed that way

You can purchase all you want from the px currently. For absolutely nothing in return to this site. You really can’t ask for more than that if your intent is to purchase items

I paid the same as you. I had the “hessian” tag. But I’ve spent some time here now and can see exactly why there’s a fee

Simply buy what you want from what’s listed in the px. Stock up what you want to sell. When you have a decent amount of items purchase the monthly upgrade and sell them with a few $$ tacked on to cover the upgrade. Pay for a month. Sell your items. Then go back to reading, contributing and watching the px for other items you want

You’ll make your $50 back in a heartbeat by buying quality items from the px currently. And frank asks for literally nothing in return for you to do so. It can’t and won’t get better than that

If the $50 breaks you to the point you need to file a claim with PayPal….then you may as well find a new sport as you won’t be able to afford to shoot anyways…
Thanks for a thoughtful comment. I have plenty of experience with dealing with and watching for scammers from other forums and on GB as well. I do believe it is the individual's responsibility to protect themselves.

Ah, "Hessian", yes, I couldn't remember the word as its been quite a while since I last spent much time on here.

My comments in this chain really aren't based on the loss of $50, money is just a tool, not something to be loved. I simply think there could have been a better way to deal with the problems the PX has/had.
Of interest, I think it's been well over a year since you could buy the "hessian" tag so anyone that actually bought it probably got at least a year worth of PX posting access which is a pretty smoking deal.

I'm betting that most of those threatening PayPal chargebacks over their $50 from over a year ago will probably find themselves past the dispute window of both PayPal and their Credit Card companies.

Plus also something to think about..... Nobody HAS to sell to you if they don't want to, you can say you want it all you wish, but if the guy doesn't feel comfortable with the deal it's their call. And if you out yourself as a flaming malcontent, there is a chance any sellers might think it's a bit safer to take an offer from somebody else less likely to go all threatening and such.
I had no idea it was shut off that long ago, it's been quite a while since I tried to buy anything on here as I bought a home and had other responsibilities to get in order before looking at getting into LR shooting again.

I'm not actually going to bother with some kind of dispute over $50, I was just really irritated yesterday when I came back to make a WTB in the PX to find I no longer could. I don't disagree with anyone that this is a cool site with a lot of knowledge and info and value. It's just really frustrating to find that something you paid for was taken away from you. Like I said earlier, it's really just the principle behind it. Unfortunately, it is what it is.
hehehehe....all 8 of them in 15 months? LOL
Yup, ironically most of them are now in this thread. Everyone has to start somewhere, right? I'm still trying to figure out how exactly I want to get into this aspect of shooting.

Pricing structure changed. It’s $20/mo now. Did you get more than 2.5 months of PX access before it was shut off? I’d count that as a win then. If you didn’t capitalize on it that’s no ones problem but yours.

WTB threads here are definitely a doorbell so you may want to do what a lot of us do and constantly scan the PX for items you are looking for. It is unlikely that you won't see it after some time and then you can purchase for free. You can also sign up for one moth and cancel if you are determined to post a WTB ad or WTS ad.

We all support the forum in many ways...it is well worth the cost. I have been a supporter for years even though I buy and sell little. The cost is inconsequential when it is compared to the cost of the sport. You are displaying an AI symbol as your avatar...money can't be a limiting factor for you

Money isn't really a limiting factor, I just took a break from researching this hobby when I bought a house last year and just came back to it a few days ago as things are settling down. I won't be buying an AI upfront to learn LR shooting but it is the aspirational tool of choice if I end up enjoying it as much as I think and hope I will (y)

It's been explained before. The $50 account upgrade bought you 100 post status. 100 posts coincidentally got you PX access. You didn't buy PX access. You bought tenure.
Go be poor, and stupid, somewhere else.
total douche comment. no need to support and pay with this attitude. Thanks, you pushed me off the fence the other way.

I’ve been on and off the Hide since 2008 and dropping back in after a bit of a break things have changed once again. I’m not saying I’m unhappy but not totally impressed with the pay to sell especially if items aren’t really making me any money and I’m just looking to pass on a good deal to someone else.

well you, myself and others don't own the site so it's the owners rules. I will say I don't see as many things for sale nor the quality of items as in the past but this is still a great site with a wealth of knowledge. I refuse to use arfcom and seeing more of their cast offs here but on the flip side, the m4 site has gotten better.

Is what it is, still a great resource site and I'm grateful for the knowledge and insight

I agree, SH has always been a great place for info, both giving and getting. Watching the changes over the years, nothing ever stands still and change is inevitable, good bad indifferent. I wouldn’t want to try and manage this place so I’m not here to complain. ARFCOM, I put behind me and had all but forgotten about M4. I liked that group but I haven’t been there in years. Maybe time to revisit it.

I've been on here for a while probably almost 10 years... went through all the changes from normal sniper'shide to scout and back to sniper'shide... Some probably have been here even longer. It's not my site, and I know its cost $$ to run it.. But $200/month for commercial sale and $20/month for private/individual... While $20 is not that much... but paying monthly just to be able to post in PX ... ?? Maybe I'm a cheapskate lol

Question/clarification about the rules. Do you have to be a paying member to post an “I’ll take it” in the PX, or just to post an item for sale? I see non-supporter replies to PX threads, so I assumed it was okay, but the rules say your have to be a supporter to post in the PX. Sorry for the confusion.

To reply to an ad, you don't have to be a member. Just don't try to use a reply to sneak in a sales ad.

Can anyone tell me how to mark something sold that has been listed long enough that the post is no longer editable?

Just reply to your ad with a post saying the item has sold. It will age out if no one responds to it after that.

What do I do if part of my post has been bought but there is no use in trying to sell the other parts because I will be either giving them away at this point with my price drops, or actually coming out of pocket for shipping? Is it best just to leave the ad alone? I"m also wondering what the rule is in deleting a post if any? Meaning, do we want posts to stay outstanding so there is record of them? Thanks.

Can you pay for a month or 2 just to sell a few items or does it have to be a full year. Sorry new to this change.
Yes, you can pay monthly, then post ads in the PX. Go into PayPal and set up "recurring/monthly payments of $20.00 per month. You can cancel (the PayPal payment) at any time (after the first month) and you can "re-up" at any time.

After you sign up for monthly payments on PayPal, you will then see "Supporter" in your Hide profile. The amount of time for it to show up in your profile varies, but mine have been pretty quick (like minutes to a couple of hours).

May not be the right spot for this but I notice it a lot.
Why so many ads with the price edited out?
Put sold in there somewhere and change the heading. Leaving the price let’s others go back and see what similar things sold for if they are buying or trying to sell stuff.

I've never done that and I think it goes against what is polite and respectful to the other buyers and sellers on here. To each their own, maybe folks are doing it becuase they think that it'll keep others safe from scammers seeking out similar prices also. That's a lost war.

Yep, just about every Google search, SH would show up, love finding a great resource for info! I remember the pre-internet days of trying to use a Numrich catalog and Shotgun news to try and figure things out. I've even bought a 2nd gun just for a reference...

I was going to sign up as a supporter and was reading some of the benefits between supporter and supporter plus I’m sure it is down here somewhere but don’t see it so far what does it mean by limited ads. I know what limited but what is the limit so many per week, per month, per year or what. Thank you in advance

I'm trying to figure out how to post a "For Sale". I understand I must now be a paid "Supporter", which I did. I then wrote the ad, uploaded pics, but don't see it in the for sale thread. I looked up all the rules and comments I could find on the subject, but didn't see anything that said there would be a delay or whatever in it showing up. What am I missing? Thanks for any "help".

Go to your account settings, go to upgrades and then choose the monthly supporter option ($20 per month), sign up for that, and then you'll be able to post stuff in the for sale section.

If you are referring to your R700 with 103 rounds fired. It looks like you have it listed twice.

Am I allowed to list something for FREE here without paying (I don't want to PAY to give something away)?
Or can I just post it in the relevant forum, "Hey I got these spare parts you can have."

I have done so in the past, and I pay for Sturm and some other sites just to support (don't sell anything on them). But the recurring charge thing just doesn't work for me.

Spend $20.00 (under "recurring"), then go back in and cancel it. I've done it before, it's pretty simple. You'll get a month's worth of time out of it. Or, ask that the recipient of what you're giving away pays the $20.00. That's not an unfair thing to ask.
