Re: German 8MM Mauser buy.?
I checked the gun. All numbers match. Bolt, front rings, etc. I found no marks on the sling. No stamps, on the stock, as I've seen some, on other guns, on the web. No numbers, on the bayonet. No scabbard. The only marks, on the bayonet were Simson& Co. Suhl. Just leather, on the sling and the "hardware". No Marks, but I don't know where to look. I haven't "taken the gun apart, cause I don't know how to do that properly". This is fun, and frustrating, at the same time. I've got "something",and I don't want to screw it up. Moving slowly. Oiled the Gun, and she sits. Waiting more info. Will take Sat., to try Pics. Got a Kid coming, that "knows how". Will update. At this point, I think it's the real deal. We'll see. Some guy had doubts. I do too. We're not talking a lot of "value" here, cash wise, but the History is important. We won't see many more of these. quote=Santo]A true all matching 98k with the original sling (look for the makers stamp on the sling) and bayonet if the bayonet matches the scabbard and better yet matches the rifles serial number even in 70% condition if not for the duffle bag cut would be worth WELL north of $1000 before the current insanity. I don't know how much the cut would devalue the rifle but I am willing to bet not that much if it is a righteous 98K. I would go on gunboards.com and post a query on the German 98k forum post your question with detailed photos. Those guys really know their stuff and will give you the answers you seek. [/quote]
