If your building a precision rifle based on a Savage Short Action your choices for a quality stock are pretty good. One that many have chosen to utilize is the B&C tactical Medalist A2 available at many places for less than $250. It is an exceptional stock for the $$$

However, if your looking to build a similar tactical rifle utilizing a Savage Long Action your choices are severely limited...basically you have one built by a one off maker, buy a injection molded Choate or pony up $550+ for a Manners. The Manners and the One offs will take a couple of months to get.

What the purpose of this post is besides letting you know what Savage stock options are available is to get SAVAGE LONG ACTION owners and builders to contact Bell and Carson at:

Bell and Carlson
101 Allen Road Dodge City Industrial Park
Dodge City, KS 67801
Phone(620) 225-6688 Fax (620) 225-9095
E-Mail [email protected]

and let them know that as a SAVAGE LA owner or Builder that you too would be interested in them building a B&C Tactical Medalist A2 for a SAVAGE LONG ACTION.

If enough people do so maybe we can get one...we can make it easy for them...build it on one one color...BLACK

2 months for a stock...I should be able to buy one and have it delivered next day air if I'm willing to pay...All I'm trying to say here is I think along with many others that B&C is missing the boat here by not supporting the Savage LA...

Re: Getting Bell and Carson to Support the Savage Long

I too wish that they would build a stock for the savage long action. If you want to mag feed, a person is really limited by a short action. I am currently building a 7 SAUM on a savage long action, and have searched all over the place for a stock that would not break my budget. If Bell and Carlson would have had the A2 option available, that is definitely the one I would have used!

Re: Getting Bell and Carson to Support the Savage Long

It would great if they'd pick up the A2 for the Savage long action. I'm on the fence with a build on my long action .223 due to stock selections. I'm in for the email, slip.

You're new here so I'm guessing you are not familiar with the backlog that McMillian and Manners run. Two months if you are lucky. Want a real shock go look at how long it takes to get a new barrel direct from Krieger and not from someone who keeps 10 on perpetual backorder.

One alternative you have is to get a Choate Tactical stock.

Thats prob a better quality than Bell And Carson too.

Thats like saying Tasco is better then Burris in my opinion.

I dont get why people slam the B&C stocks so much. It has a full aluminum bedding block in it. Apparently I know little about stocks.

Im having some quality problems with the A5's.The A3 I have is machined correctley and fits good,My 2 new A5's are off.

Re: Getting Bell and Carson to Support the Savage Long

A lot of times the bedding block doesn't actually make contact wih mych of the action so in turn it will create uneven pressure and "pull" on the action rather than give it a nice rail to rest on. I skim bed my stocks just be on the safe side. My HS stock appeared to be making full contact but th B&C I had didn't appear to be making much at all. Might have a little to do with why they get bashed to some degree. Other than the bedding issue, which any high dollar stock needs it anyway, B&C's seem to be pretty good for the money

Re: Getting Bell and Carson to Support the Savage Long

My choate tactical stock, short action, made full contact with the action, but i skim bedded it anyways. If you're gonna run a LA then you get what you get. I'd get with stockade and get the prairiedog. Oh and welcome to the world of customized rifles that generate long wait times! Beats 14 weeks though!

Clearly you're new.

They're a private company. They don't run around to your every whim, producing 1000's of stocks so they can send one to you the next day. They're backlogged, deal with it or pick another manufacturer, but I bet you'll be waiting longer than 2 months with anyone else...

Just to give you a rough idea of wait times, I'm currently in month 5 of a stock that was meant to be sent already. Ordered in July, it's expected to be sent at the end of November. If it stretched into 2012 i wouldn't be surprised, nor would I complain. High Quality gear costs High amounts of Money and require High amounts of time to make. B&C are kinda towards the 'low' end of the scale, and have a short wait time due to their size, however, 2 months isn't that much to worry about.
