OK, so South Dakota recently passed the ruling about NFA weapons built/kept within the sate. No NFA tax for Silencers, SBR's SBS's and AOW's. (obviously there is more to it than just this, but you get the idea)

Point is...I've considered picking up a Glock Stock and essentially turning my G34 into a part time SBR, but according the the ruling, I would need to mark my SBR as "made in South Daktoa" (id be sure to find exactly what was needed if i go through with it)

The question I'm pondering would be...does the NFA marking go on the stock? I'd see no reason to mark the slide or lower if it's still just a handgun until the stock was added.

    Thoughts?

    Re: Glock Stocks

I hate to say it but I'm sure this (one of these SD guns) will go to court and the fed's will claim "preemption" and that guys F&%#ED.

Good luck in your endeavors but please choose wisely.

Yeah...I don't know about the addition of the stock being legal or not. I will tell you that it will be hard to claim that your Glock was "Made in South Dakaota" when the giant "AUSTRIA" stamp on the pistol certainly suggests otherwise. I think that it is clear that it was made elsewhere...and modified in SD making it an NFA item. The law may allow for that type of modification (or it may not), but before you proceed and subject yourself to federal charges (carrying a 10yr/$250k penalty), you might want to get confirmation.

If everything checks out, then I agree that the pistol's frame/lower is what needs to bear the mark.

I would agree with ORD. Several states are trying to pass similar laws. In the ones that I've seen the item needs to be made in state.

Acording to Tech branch on an existing firearm if you use the existing serial number you can mark the barrel slide with your information. I think the slide is a more appropriate place on a glock because of the plastic. The name city or state needs to be marked. It just has to be conspiuous

    Re: Glock Stocks

    Doesn't matter.

First, ATF is still alive and well in SD. It's not worth saving $200 to me, but some guys like prison and lawyers.

Second, stocks on glocks suck. The slide recoils right back towards your face. When it moves, so does your sight picture. It's not worth your time. Been there, tested that.

I would look into either a LoeWolf AR lower, or a KelTec Sub2000
