Well then, by all means, please continue!

ESPN's Adam Schefter has obtained a copy of a letter NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell sent today to all 32 teams. With every week that goes by, the anthem protests are further alienating the league's core constituency and sinking it deeper into a political muck it may never be able to get out of. So he's pleading with the clubs to knock it off and stand for the anthem - all of them, every player - and he wants the owners to seriously consider mandating it if they don't.

Here's the letter in full:
To: Chief Executives/ Club Presidents
From: Commissioner Goodell
Date: October 10, 2017
Re: Fall Meeting/National Anthem

We live in a country that can feel very divided. Sports, and especially the NFL, brings people together and lets them set aside those divisions, at least for a few hours. The current dispute over the National Anthem is threatening to erode the unifying power of our game, and is now dividing us, and our players, from many fans across the country.

I’m very proud of our players and owners who have done the hard work over the past year to listen, understand and attempt to address the underlying issues within their communities. At our September committee meetings, we heard directly from several players about why these issues are so important to them and how we can support their work. And last week, we met with the leadership of the NFLPA and more players to advance the dialogue.

Like many of our fans, we believe that everyone should stand for the National Anthem. It is an important moment in our game. We want to honor our flag and our country, and our fans expect that of us. We also care deeply about our players and respect their opinions and concerns about critical social issues. The controversy over the Anthem is a barrier to having honest conversations and making real progress on the underlying issues. We need to move past this controversy, and we want to do that together with our players.

Building on many discussions with clubs and players, we have worked to develop a plan that we will review with you at next week’s League meeting. This would include such elements as an in-season platform to promote the work of our players on these core issues, and that will help to promote positive change in our country. We want to ensure that any work at the League level is consistent with the work that each club is doing in its own community, and that we dedicate a platform that can enable these initiatives to succeed. Additionally, we will continue the unprecedented dialogue with our players.

I expect and look forward to a full and open discussion of these issues when we meet next week in New York. Everyone involved in the game needs to come together on a path forward to continue to be a force for good within our communities, protect the game, and preserve our relationship with fans throughout the country. The NFL is at its best when we ourselves are unified. In that spirit, let’s resolve that next week we will meet this challenge in a unified and positive way.
Goodell is offering them some sort of bone in the form of a vaguely defined platform that will allow them to "promote positive change in our country," whatever that means. Whatever it is won't get them as much attention as the anthem protests, but neither will it threaten the future of the league that pays them all substantial salaries. You might think they'd be smart enough to recognize their own self-interest in this, but then, Jamele Hill isn't smart enough. Why should they be?

Anyway, this if further evidence of what we've been telling you for weeks: This whole situation is a complete disaster for the NFL, and it gets worse by the week. Goodell ackowledges that unmistakably in the first bolded passage above. It's diving the league from fans across the country who either don't buy what they're claiming about the police (which they shouldn't, because it's totally false), or don't think the form of the protest is appropriate and don't tune into NFL football to see such things.

One and done with me. They've burned their bridge. It started with the Ravens considering picking up that ungrateful fuck Kapernik then solidified with the kneeling. Not one dime of my money will go to them or the league nor one minute of my tv or radio.

It might be the nail in the coffin but I have not paid attention to the NFL for a long long time. Don't get me wrong I see some highlights about 3 times a season when the stars align. Also I have family who are into it so I go to their place for the Super Bowl but that is mostly a social family gathering for me.

To Late Jolly Roger.

Just ain't gonna work. The damage has been done.

I'm not terribly surprised at any of the content. It's pretty apparent that Goodell still doesn't get it. And, if he doesn't get it, there will still be some (probably high) percentage of players that don't get it either and won't change their ways. With the action of dis-respecting the Flag, our Country, our Vets and Police, the NFL has been brazenly divisive. the NFL's behavior has been anything but; "especially the NFL, brings people together and lets them set aside those divisions, at least for a few hours".

I'm not considering going back, but if I were, I would expect a full apology from Goodell (representing the league) as well as a separate apology from the player's association to our Vets/Armed Forces as well as the Police. Up until that happens, I'm gone. I'm not going to hold my breath, I don't think their egos will allow any of them to every consider doing that.

Screw Goodell getting it. The PLAYERS don't get it. Sports are an escape from life. I can't think of one hard working person who doesn't think the athelets are over paid. People who get to "Play" a sport for a living. Don't get me wrong it is big business and you can't be sitting on your ass and expect to make it in the big leagues. That still does not remove the perception that it is a game.

Lets trade lives with the average american for a week. The players can't relate to the average american because they have been coddled since the age of 6.

I quit watching baseball when they went on strike, years ago. NBA for the same reason. Never really found anything endearing about NFL.

The Players could make some change, they could put their money were their mouth is. Instead they do this that distracts from the game, from the escape that people enjoy. I for one hope Kaepernick is homeless in a month. I don't generally wish ill will on others, but this nation and the american dream were in his grasp and he shit on it.

Last week received a email from Ford Motor Co. to the effect I have been a valued customer for the last 40 years an they were going to reward me with a huge saving on my next truck.

My reply.

"Thanks for the offer as I well be buying a new truck before the year is out however, my days of buying Ford products are over, no matter how much the discount is to the point of a new truck at N/C. I do not support an will not advertise for those who fund the NFL, in any way, shape, form, or fashion. Disrespecting this country's flag, an National Anthem is a deal killer with me. I know the one or two trucks I won't be buying, is not even lunch money to those who head Ford, but money is the only thing most understand these days".

One man can make a difference when a bunch of like minded men do the same.

The Players won’t get it till the revenue loss pay cuts begin. I won’t believe it till then either.

America is better off with the NFL dead. Take your kids to the range on Sunday.

Goodell stepped on his dick way back when he gave a sit on the fence speech.
I'm dying watching these ass wipes lose target audience by the truck load.

I think there are a lot of season ticket holders who would have preferred that these assholes announced they'd be kneeling before they spent their money on them.
If they straighten up now, most of America will forget about it and the losses will be minimal.
I was really hoping they'd ride it out longer and burn the whole fucking house down.
I saw the other day that their approval ratings had dropped below those of the NBA. I know exactly one person who watches NBA. He's my token friend.

The NFL is dead to me. There is not enough forgiveness in the world for me to ever change my stance on disrespecting our flag, or our veterans & LE. I've been driving FOMOCO for the last 13 years & I'm done w/ them too. Some of you may disagree w/ me on this note, but I refuse to buy GM / Chrysler vehicles as well. Why should I buy a vehicle from someone who can't make payroll?

I have to agree....the NFL (National Felon League) will never get another dime from us and neither will Ford. They will never actually get it but may apologize to get their paychecks.....but not from me or my wife. We have stopped going a lot of places that are not 2nd A friendly or flag friendly. Our home has become our sanctuary and we do more shooting!!

Was just thinking this afternoon, if this nonsense ceases, how many will forgive and forget, and/or how much irreversible damage has been done? Would be fun/interesting to see the numbers from their marketing folks.

my guess is the NFL is doing too little too late. speaking for myself, i am so disgusted, i dont plan on watching it anytime soon. many of the people i know feel the same.

the fact that goodell is getting off his ass and addressing this tells me that they are hurting. good. fuck 'em.

The only thing Goodell is "getting" is reports their popularity nosedive is affecting their bottom line. If he had any interest in keeping politics out of sports or respect for the country/LEO/military, he would have mitigated this shit long ago. Instead he fanned the flames and talked of how proud he was of the league's response.

I really hope the protesting players see Goodell as "The Man" and keep up or even expand the fight. I'm not ready to stop laughing at them yet.

and now the Libtards are boycotting the NFL because they feel the players should be able to kneel.....bwahahahahaha

the NFL is digging its own grave.

wonder what these overpaid fools are gonna do when the NFL goes belly up and they can no longer make millions of dollars to catch a football......god, they might have to actually get a real job.........hope the "protest" was worth it

This if that POS Goodell had done the right thing and nipped this shit in the bud from the start all they would have had was a few pissed off SJWs that don’t spend money on them in the first place, now they have alienated their core base the people that actually do spend money on these overpaid asswipes and I hope people see that Goodell is only trying to save a sinking ship not actually to the right thing.

+1

But especially NOT from Government Motors. I will NEVER forgive the deal they made with the devil at the expense of salaried employees and retirees.

[h=1]As usual... follow the money. Does anyone really think that these trained circus clowns who beat their heads on each other for the entertainment of the American masses *really* is doing anything more than jumping up and down on command...

NFL Players Union Teams Up With George Soros[/h]
The NFL’s players union has been supporting leftist causes long before the controversy of National Anthem protests.

Many players with the NFL met President Trump’s criticism of recent protests during the National Anthem with outrage. The NFL Players Association is no exception.

“The line that marks the balance between the rights of every citizen in our great country gets crossed when someone is told to just “shut up and play,”” the union said in a press release. “[…] We understand that our job as a Union is not to win a popularity contest and it comes with a duty to protect the rights of our members. For that we make no apologies and never will.”

Along with other union interests, the NFL Players Association claims it “Provides assistance to charitable and community organizations,” on their website.

Long before President Trump said the NFL has a right to fire their players for disrespectful actions on the field, the union supported leftist groups. The “charitable and community organizations” they’ve supported included anti-Trump groups during the presidential campaign and several politically liberal nonprofits.

They also made major contributions to the Open Society Foundations, where George Soros sits as chairman, and to pro-union groups which Soros funds.

The Washington Times reports:
Tax documents released by 2ndVote show the NFLPA donated $5,000 in 2015 to the Center for Community Change Action, a group active in the anti-Trump resistance and bankrolled by a host of liberal foundations, including top Democratic donor George Soros’s Foundation for Open Society.

A member of the AFL-CIO, the NFLPA also contributed in 2013 and 2015 to Working America, the AFL-CIO’s community affiliate, which Open Secrets said spent $1 million in 2016 to defeat Mr. Trump.

Working America has since mobilized against the Republican tax-cut framework, denouncing it as the “Trump tax scam.”

The NFLPA contributed $5,000 in 2014 to Jobs with Justice, another pro-union group backed by Mr. Soros, and $5,000 in 2013 to the progressive Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy.
George Soros and Planned Parenthood both provided funding for the Center for Community Change. They support their own, as made clear when they announced their plans to honor Tom Steyer, a major donor to leftist causes, at their awards dinner on October 12. The awards are for those who are “heroes on the front lines of resistance.”

There is more in the link....

Once again the media thought they were going to turn the nation against Trump. Still not working out for them.

I could trash on the NFL all day long. Makes me feel gooder inside.

But not this good.

They think there are White Rules and Black Rules. Now they are learning there are only one set of rules.

This is not going to be easy for them to accept. They are not Oppressed nor are they special, they are Equal. I thought that is what they wanted. I am confused? :)

They can all kiss my rebel dick as far as I’m concerned, football is a joke and I’ve never gained an interest in it anyways. Such a large group of grown overpaid cunts is all they are and anything the league does to mitigate this stupidity is simply a responce to lose of ratings and revenue that’s all. I’ll toss ESPN with them to screw spineless hacks

Growing up in a place with virtually zero interest in American football made it easy to give zero fucks about the NFL.

The NFL players are playing a game with a ball. Let's get real. This is one step away from being a court jester. An entertainer. A trained bear. Yes they are magnificent athletes. They are the best at what they do but they are not curing cancer. They are not guarding the border. They are a bunch of self important over paid dancing bears. The only way to get their attention and that of the owners is for the stadium for Monday Night Football to be empty. 100%, nobody in the seats. Silence in the coliseum. That my friends would send them a message.

The players should be happy to know just about every other job out there - especially the ones that aren't kids games - don't require participating in the National Anthem.

The only way to get it through their dunderheads is to stop watching the games and not to patronize the major sponsors. What's happening in the NFL is a microcosm of what's occurring in America; the Progressive Demoncrats, AKA, Socialists, feel emboldened to press their case and try to take over America. I can't wait to see what happens on November 4th - the Day of Whining!

It was fun watching Roger eat a shit sandwich today but he wasted hist time trying to placate the fans. He may even agree to provide Ho's and blow to the boys but his discussions of all that worked toward a solution this week, no mention of the FANS was included. THAT is the real story of where we are.Make sure they stay dead to all of us until they return to their life of crime. To help me wean off the games, Thursday night I will watch Planet of the Apes. You have all heard the saying about don't piss down my leg and tell me it is raining.....that is the equivalent of them saying their hissy fit is because of Social Justice and they just happened to pull it when the NFL had drawn in suckers for a bait and switch moment. It stops now...stay strong.

Never again NFL and I'm not real happy about the comments JR made but at least NASCAR isn't kneeling.
