Got the paperwork in the mail and started it today for my first can. If I haven't picked out a class 3 dealer yet, can I just leave that part blank? Any gotcha's I should be careful to avoid?
kind of working backwards on this one:
1. Research can that you want to buy
2. Talk to Manufacturer or dealer of the can
3. buy the can and get Form 4 from dealer
4. Go to Local law enforcement for fingerprints and Senior law enforcement signature (you also need recent picture of yourself)
5. Take Form 4 back to Dealer after you fill out your portion of no's and signatures or you can mail it straight to ATF with your $200. (there are numerous places on the internet that tell you the Form 4 process)
6. Wait for ATF to complete the process and get the stamp back from ATF. (2 - 6 months)
I am sure I missed some items but that is the basics of what to do.

ATF does nothing until you have the Serial Number for the form 4 and the process with the Local Law enforcement Officer. This process in non-negotiable with the ATF and there is a way to go about it. Suppressors are not for the impatient. Believe me on this one as I am in the process right now with a 223 suppressor.
Hm thanks guys. Guess I'll just have to wait on it now. Maybe I was thinking of a form 1 that you could do that with, I had thought about building one too but decided it would be worth it just to get a proven design.
