There are not too many left anymore who lived through the great depression. Or lived in a single room homestead on the prairie for that matter. Not too many who lived almost as long without electricity as with it. There probably aren't too many souls quicker laugh at themselves. Or make a joke and laugh off a bad situation. Probably not too many grandmas today teaching their grand kids to can and garden, or telling you the story if the "Little Red Hen" when you don't want to be on working end of the "farm."
Her father was one of the first "Rockford Melon" growers. And her family were some of the first homesteaders in the area. Carving a life out of a tough land. They were called the Christie Bastards, as their parents were not married by a preacher because there wasn't one there yet. She remembers working the farm, rolling the melons out of the rows to irrigate. Taking loads of melon to sell, and going to the fair with her father to show Dahlias and Zinnias.
I was going to write something about her survival COVID19, but seems kind of run of the mill. Everyone is doing it.
So here is a hide happy birthday to my Granny {who wanted to be called granny because of guess who} She has always been a joker.
