Birch will last 1 swing.
It is not a hardwood.
Birch is great for handles, in fact better than a maple or an ash. It has less of a tendency to shatter and it’s light weight and strong. It would be in my top 3 choices for an axe handle.
Op if you get this together I’m in for one or two, with or without handles I’m a buyer.
Birch is a hardwood but it might not necessarily be a hard wood. Balsa and basswood are hardwoods. Red cedar, hemlock, and yew are softwoods.

Damn, somebody better hop in a time machine and tell the Swedes back in 1943 who made this birch handled axe that it would be broken by the time I owned it in 2022.
I'll take one. What part of the country you in. The Amish makes some good handles. I may have a point of contact. How many would you want and when?
