Maggie’s Hand Forged Swedish Axe Order Thread

In for two. Future brother-in-law is an arborist and a nicely refinished Swedish axe would be a great surprise…and then one for me.

I'm still in. Been thinking about a gransfors American felling axe size for awhile and I'm sure this would be cheaper.

Posted 2 really good quality old American axes up for sale. Normal PX rules of first post of I'll take it followed by PM gets it.

Finished up one of my personal ones.

Original arctic birch handle from 1944. You can see the forging line in the head still.

New old stock Gransfors head is up for sale in the PX.

I have a line on a huge batch, were talking 800 axes I can pull from. I am working the deal now so I'll let you guys know if it works out.

If anyone has a good source for handles let me know and if it pans out I'll send you a free axe for helping me out. I can get handles here and there but if I bought a big batch of these heads I am going to need a bunch of good handles at a good price. Birch handles are what I am looking for preferably vs hickory.

Bought an OP Link handle originally for my double bit axe (got the axe from my grandpa). Didn't fit. Too narrow to get into size. Bought a House Handle after recommendations from here. Much better.

Birch will last 1 swing.
It is not a hardwood.
Birch is great for handles, in fact better than a maple or an ash. It has less of a tendency to shatter and it’s light weight and strong. It would be in my top 3 choices for an axe handle.

Op if you get this together I’m in for one or two, with or without handles I’m a buyer.

I'll take one. What part of the country you in. The Amish makes some good handles. I may have a point of contact. How many would you want and when?

Getting just a couple more ready for sale to fund the purchase of more for all you guys, lol. But until these are done, here is some axe porn for you guys. This is a very old Sater Banko and you can see the different steels after the cleaning. You can see how the bit was welded in.

This head is probably 80+ years old if you can believe it.
