hello all,

i wanted to introduce myself. ive been looking over this site for a long time now. i do enjoy all of the solid information and pictures. i really enjoy the guns and the knowledge that this site brings. thanks for having me. and hello to all.

ok so heres the deal. i have a rifle. great rifle. i took it upon myself in a night of stupidity to "polish" the bolt lug raceways.

well........i think i might have OVER "polished" it. know what i mean? yeah, the bolt is just a bit loose and has a stuck a few times while being manipulated.

i have shot it, accuracy doesnt seem to have deteriorated.

ok guys. i need your insight. what in the hell have i done. give me the full story. and yes, i know im the new guy i have my flame suit on. let me have it.

Re: hello! introduction and gunsmithing blunder. help!

Did you do the upper half or the lower half of the raceway? Your bolt will bind a little more if you did too much of both because its allowing the bolt to get off the centerline of the action's axis.

You should be fine.

Re: hello! introduction and gunsmithing blunder. help!

thank you for the quick responses.

no pictures. there really isnt anything to show. other than a what looks like some blueing removed.

i did add just a bit a grease and it did the trick.

it was recodmended to me that i use lapping compound, simply add some to the race ways and manipulate the bolt a little. so yes, i did the raceways and lugs. however i didnt close the bolt.

i dont know whos the bigger idiot me or this guy who i thought had more credibility.

Re: hello! introduction and gunsmithing blunder. help!

If some grease helped and accuracy is still good, I would shoot it until you are ready to get a new barrel, at that time have a good smith true your action up and have them git a PTG bolt to it. Until then, I would just shoot it

When the rifle is rebuilt remember to have them ream the raceway. It wont be anywhere near round anymore. Itd be a shame to drop a PTG bolt into it without reaming it.

To any coffee table gunsmiths, leave the lapping compound alone.

I am more of a kitchen counter gunsmith so I should be ok, right?
