What are some decent alternatives to the Raptar that operate on wavelengths invisible to the eye? What I mean by invisible, is complete lack of (glowing red) visible light coming from the source. Ideally, something that isn't a unicorn,

This would be used with gen3 PVS-14s. Already have a Luna ELIR-3 inbound, but I'm sure it won't be incognito like a Raptar would be.

Illuminator, I'd definitely want adjustable beam focus (output power control would be a major plus).


FWIW you'll want something around 940nm, around 850nm and under starts being visible.
Yeah, I was definitely looming for 940 or higher. I had a 915nm and 940nm that I was testing with a Pard NV007. The 940nm was undoubtedly Chinesium, and I think they were really using a 915nm diode, because it glowed identically to the 915nm that I had. Not as bright as 850nm, but it was still pretty visible from over 100y away.

Now what I'm not clear on, is how far up the IR spectrum these factory L3 unfilmed WP tubes can pick up for illumination. Guessing they wouldn't have any problems with a Raptar in the 1400-1500nm range, but I'd like to see if anyone can confirm that. My understanding is the higher up the spectrum, the less IR light is seen, so intensity has to scale with power (correct me if I got that wrong though)!

Correct, the closer to the microwave spectrum it goes the less IR will be perceived by a sensor. It's actually lower on the spectrum, longer wavelength, but you're on the right track.

I have pretty decent luck with Gen 3 Omni 7 tubes seeing 950 nm with powerful IR illuminators. However, I think anything past say 1,000 nm will start falling off quickly such that the L3 filmless won't see say above 1,000 nm.

Ah I see you want a good illuminator that is invisible to naked eye.

Spend $1000-1200 and get a peq2. Awesome illuminator and laser. People that use both at the 2 has a cleaner beam than the 15.

Put a want to buy ad you will get one.
