Gunsmithing HOLY SHIT I BROKE THE LATHE! HELP!!!

Ok, I'm in deep shit here. I was going to chuck some stock into the lathe and do a little practicing on my threading. I got everything set and turned it on and it was in high speed gear. So I stopped it, opened the gear box cover, and flipped the low speed reducer gear over. Shut the lid and turned the switch and nothing but an angry motor not turning shit! Now I can't get the low speeed reducer the disengage! What the fuck! I don't want to ask Jim as he'll either be pissed (not likely) or make fun of me. HELP!!!!

good thing no body in here would make fun...
turn it off, put a chuck key in hand turn it back and forth while trying to shift it, if you find a gear remove key and test.

5C collet chuck, no key. I got it loose, and got the reducer out of engagement. Now I just have to figure out what I did wrong.

You did nothing wrong. Sometimes things get a little stiff or stuck and it's just a matter of working it loose. No harm, no foul.

I am a dumbass of monumental proportions! I didn't do anything wrong, I just forgot one critical step. Out of sight, out of mind. The little button that releases the high speed ring gear was in a position where I couldn't see it, so I forgot to pull and twist it to free spin.

We're all good now. Sorry to go all girly girl on ya'll and panic.

Hee hee! Ok, all's well. I single pointed some old barrel sections in 1/2-28. My problem is I get impatient and try to go too deep on a pass, but I'm getting better. I want to get a lot better so I can do the barrel threads for the receiver end. I think a have a bit more practice to do before I order a Rock blank for the M24 in 300WM I'm going to surprise Jim with for his birthday.

BTW, notice the purple name. I don't have a johnson to knock loose. Silly boys. Thanks for the help ya'll!

Kinda hard(no not that) to imagine anything else when everytime I read one of her threads that damn ass seems to swing in my face for ever.....er, .....wait, I mean I....uh, forgot what I was going to type.
