Home Depot Cofounder Bernie Marcus Blames Socialism for ‘Lazy,’ ‘Fat,’ ‘Stupid’ Labor Force

Those who don’t want to work at prevailing wages are going to find out within a few years that they’ve really fucked themselves. Demand $20 / hr at a Burger joint? That’s close to the cost of full automation (aka no employees at that location, possibly a manager part time, meals are 100% automation prepared to order by machines).

And just as soon as they feel all good about themselves, they will start to realize they've just made their entire business dependent on the even richer more amoral folks that run the Big Tech and Big Data and big automation industries who will happily hike the prices on everything faster than inflation and they will have no choice but to pay up or their business stops working the moment their licence agreements aren't renewed.

In the end all they are doing is forging their own chains just like everybody else is.

Another funny story with some tall tale thrown in to keep you off center. A job boss I had, we will call him Roger, because that was his name. Roger was pasty white irish. Steve, his stepson, had a somewhat darker complexion. They stopped at a Home Depot to get some stuff and of course, there were all these fine brethren from Mexico trying to get work. The border patrol was there and rounding up illegal immigrants.

Roger says an agent asked if Steve spoke English and Steve said, "Si." Did not actually happen that way and Steve knew no Spanish. But it was funny to think that it would happen. The cop was just asking questions and Roger replied that Steve was his step-son and as american as anything else.

Ah, the good times. They go by so fast.

So everybody crapping on the old guy read that article right? Hes 93 and hasn't been associated with HD for just over 20 years. He doesn't give a fuck about the people he's describing. He's just telling what he sees.

So what you are saying is he is a super rich super old fucker who has more money than he'll ever spend, doesn't have a clue about what it's like for the working class right about now but feels everybody should listen to him bitch about the poor not working hard enough for the rich?

Automating a warehouse store is a little more expensive, but at ~$25/ hour those start looking good.

Same shift is starting in white collar jobs thanks to AI, but minimum wage jobs are changing big time.

They can't even keep their damn soft serve machine running but they are going full automation?

I call bs.

Pretty much. But in all fairness he's not bitching about them not working hard enough, he's just calling them fat, lazy and stupid.

I have a simple answer:

Wetbacks.

They want to work. Let the Americans who wont work, starve.
They used to want to work. I’ve hired a couple a few times over in the last few years cause I had some projects I never could get the time to do. I looked for Americans and was willing to pay. Here is what I found, they either didn’t want to work or did not have the skills for the job. Or, they wanted 5x what the job was worth. I’m willing to pay good money, within reason. I did hire some Americans to do some smaller jobs and they fucked those up. Hired some guys from Bolivia that were perfect the first few times then some years go by and I get them back out here and they had gotten fat and their work turned to shit. So, I can’t say even the wetbacks want to work anymore.

All of them are. Even the ones with jobs. I just saw a family at the store the other day. Clearly from somewhere south of the border. They didn't speak any english, and the clerk was showing them how to use their brand new card. They are here for free stuff, and they will tell if you ask them. They are handed money at the border and sent on their way.

I know there is lots of money in it, because a guy I know was offered 600 per head to run down to the border, get them, and bring them back here. Then it made sense why another guy I know, who's car dealership and shop hardly do any business, seems to rolling in doe.

We are importing entire communities, and well connected gang networks are getting lots more soldiers.
To make matters worse, I’ve been told by people in the education system that even when they know people are illegal, they can’t turn them in. And the real fucked up part is, if you are American, you got to show all your vax records and all this bullshit proving who you are but apparently that doesn’t apply to the illegals. Now this is just what I’m told by people in the system. I have not researched or verified this but nothing would surprise me these days.

HD runs in a way that’s pretty easy on the employees from what I can see. Aside from the early hours, I don’t see anything particularly taxing.

How much do really need to pay someone to say ‘go ahead and use that register to scan your own items and pay’? I usually don’t even acknowledge their directive as I can see for myself exactly which register doesn’t have a person standing in front of it scanning items.

Most basic service jobs are like this, so I’m at a loss as to where one gets to demand that the state require the employer to give them a raise.
Tell me you have never worked a job like that in any capacity without telling me you’ve never worked a job like that. There are some skilled people that work those jobs at times and they will run the dog shit out of you. And yes it’s much harder than you think.now don’t get me wrong, they do have some stupid lazy ass people as well but there are also good people in those companies that work their ass off. But you have to assume that it kills morale when those good hard working people look around and see the fat lazy ass ignorant people doing nothing getting just a wee bit less than they do. I can also say that HD is a company that will compensate you well if you bring something to the table. There are people on the floor making $60+ an hour in some cases and it goes up depending on location. Hell the guys that stack the damn lumber in a lot of stores were pulling $33 an hour 25 years ago.

The old man may be retired but he is right.

Again, in my industry, especially in my company, you can make really good money. But you have to show up and work. And, no, you don't get an office. That's my job and it is stressful in ways that you cannot imagine. I already spent a few decades being a dirt bunny. Anyway, the name of the job is to dig by hand. A lot. Our crews average 300 feet a day at 18 inches deep. And they are in their 50s. What's the difference?

A combination of generational culture and a genetic mutation. The mutation is that they were born with testicles that produce testerone.

Secondly, their generation, often freshly from Mexico, knows that all work is hard. But you make more money at it in the USA and we, so far, have less cholo saturation here than in Juarez, for example. And yeah, someone go ahead and tell me I am spelling cholo wrong. We are not underpaying anyone and they have SSNs and we take money for taxes and send that in. We are paying them what we would pay anyone who would show up and do the work.

And we have hired people who are not mexican. And they run into the first day of some hard work. Maybe a total of 100 feet of digging on a job, shared between 2 or 3 people. And that wears the guy out. Talk about a little baby. Seriously, one guy left from the job and never came back. Not for the sweater he left. Or his paycheck.

So, it is a difference between those who understand what a wage is and what it takes to earn and those who think the world owes them bread and circuses just because they can fog up a mirror.

Now, I must admit my bias, it's only fair. I have been surrounded by people in the military and I would have also served but had a medical disqualification. Uncle Sam wants you healthy before you go off to die. So many served to keep the freedoms we have, to ward off the evil of communism. And communism is evil. Socialism is the stepping stone to communism and they always, always, always lead to starvation and genocide. There has never been a time that it has not led to that. Or a violent revolution along the lines of what Robes-Pierre led.

Yeah if those companies get a good employee they will run them ragged. The reward for a good work ethic is more work.

I worked for a company in the 90s. I used to make the joke, which was more truth than funny. Our Christmas bonus is when the boss said he would see you the next business day after Christmas. That means you had a job to come back to. Ah, good times. He was so tight that he had tires that would not only stop on a dime, they would pick it up, too.

We used to hear a loud squealing sound and then realized that was him pinching a quarter so tight that you could hear the eagle shit.

Good point, there are usually a few squared away folks who keep things on track.

I’ve always wondered about this crap. I think it’s intentional. I have never worked in the food industry before so I have no idea what’s involved. Is there something hard about working a shake machine because they are always out or down or something. I call BS also.

I think there is (could be wrong about this) some sort of contract agreement between the manufacturer of the machine where their technicians have to fix it for warranty reasons or some b.s. This came from a 20 y.o. manager so take it with a grain of salt.

Very well could have been a bs excuse by the manager.

The manager that told you is correct.

An example of the kind of "progress" to look forward to when they try to fully automate their store.
They will be at the mercy of someone bigger than them who doesn't give a crap and only cares about money and would rather they go broke because their machines don't work right than let somebody else fix it.

That kind of automation also breeds an underclass who are dependent on socialist policies to survive. Trump understood that we need to bring business back to America, bring back manufacturing etc.

Why do you think there is this push to have "guaranteed universal income"...
