There seems to be some new players recently, over the "usual suspects":
- 175SMK, 155Scenar, 155SMK(2156)
- RL15, Varget

I would like to know if anyone have got good loads of 175SMK & 178BTHP(Hornady) from these new powers:
- Alliant AR-Comp
- Alliant 2000-MR
- IMR 8208 XBR

This is mainly for a bolt gun, but if something can work with a slight "jump", then an universal load would be preferrable for both a bolt gun and a gas gun (need to load to ~2.810, to make sure max is under 2.820).

I really hope that some of the above can get the 178BTHP close to the performance of Hornady factory's Superformance ammp.

--------------------------------

From my initial research, here are some generalization, please correct me (for real) if you don't agree....

> IMR 8208 do not generate high velocities
> amount of AR-comp used is less than 2000-MR, hence powder will be less compressed (when using long/large 178 bullets)
> both IMR8208 & 2000-MR are very clean
> all 3 of the above are temperature in-sensitive, better than varget, and far better than RL15

I'm using 47.5 gr of 2000MR in Fed, Hornady, and Winchester cases which run 2680fps with 175SMK. Excellent accuracy as well. In Lapua the same load runs at 2740fps with 178 Amax. Are in a stock Remington 5R with 24".

I can tell you that the 8208 will not push the 175 and heavier very well at all but did great in testing for the 155 & 168's

I used to run a combo of 175 smk/48 gr 2000mr/Win brass/Fed 210m at 2.810 oal for 2650 fps from a 20" barrelled LTR. Shot well from 45-100 degrees.

Same here but Im using Win brass and getting about 2730fps with a 178HPBT. Very satisfactory results. 26" 700 SPSS.

I'm running 44gr ar-comp under 155smk (2156) in lapua brass br2 primers seated at 2.85" oal and 22" barrel and getting about 2900fps. No major issues with pressure. Inhave found out that alliants numbers seem to be over estimated for range numbers.

2000MR is great for velocity

47.5 in win or 46.5 in LC is my load with 175SMK to mag length. 2550 for 16", 2650 for 20", and around 2750 for 24" (ballpark).

if not looking for extra velocity maybe give ARCOMP a try. It sounds like temp stability akin to varget but lighter charges for similar speeds.
