Houston Bayou rifle club

Re: Houston Bayou rifle club

I've been thinking about that myself. My understanding and I may be wrong is they aren't taking applications right now. Also, I know someone that was a member and quit as the 1000yd range was always closed on the weekend. Again, not sure how true that is either. I can shoot 300 anywhere on the weekend and would be joining just for access to that 1000yd+ range but if it's only open a certain times during the week I won't waste my money or time. Hope I've got bad info as they aren't far from my home.

Re: Houston Bayou rifle club

I was a member until I moved to Las VEgas 5 years ago.

When I was there matches were offered monthly, and that all matches were open to non-members. So if all you want is to shoot the matches, you can do that without being a member.

The 1,000 yard range sits directly behind the 200/300 range impact berm, and cannot be used when folks are shooting on the 200/300 range. They have scheduled 600 and beyond practice days on the schedule for long range practice. When the long range is in use, the 200/300 range is shut down.

Re: Houston Bayou rifle club

My reasons for not joining, no steel is allowed on the ranges and suppressors are not allowed (think you might be able to petition the board for suppressor use once you are a member, not 100% sure on this). Also no tactical matches only F class. And the 1000y range isn't always usable as stated above.

It's not sounding good. I figured there would be alot of members but so far no one has said they are. Hell I even asked over on AR15.com and haven't gotten anyone yet. A guy over there did tell me there haveing competions this weekend. It seems like people just go there for the matchs and not really join it.

Re: Houston Bayou rifle club

TopoSniper is or was a member. Before I moved, he and I shot his suppressors at Bayou all the time. I do not know that they have refused a suppressor petition, but they might.

Like I said, other than access to use the long range on long range practice day, being a member is not really essential since they will let you shoot the matches anyway.

I was a member since I liked the little pistol bay and 25-50 yard lines and the 300 yard line was nicer than hauling out to American Shooters out West on I10.

I was a member until this spring when I was transfered out of state. They changed up the 1000 yard range rules 2 years ago. You now have to show a range officer you and your gun can shoot to 1000 yd. You have to qualify. Not hard to do. they just want to make sure you don't launch rounds out of the range. There is a new subdivision on the other side of Highway 6 that has a local activist that lives in it. Also THEY do allow suppressors but you have to petition the board. Not hard to do, just go to one of the board meetings, Bring a copy of your tax forms. They will send you a letter to take with you to the range saying you can shoot suppressed there. I have 9 suppressors and didn't have any issue getting permission. They just wanting to make sure you are legal. It is still the best range around Houston to shoot. Quiet, nice set up. When or if you decide to join, they have a sign up meeting on saturdays you have to go to. They explain the rules and the range layout. When I can get tranfered back to Houston, I will be joining again.
