terrebonne, or
So i had a winchester mod 70 300 wsm here at my house and decided to take that and the douglas blank i had laying around to the gunsmith today. When i got there i started talking to him about the re barrel of the rifle and he brought up a good point, the blank was a .930 diameter, not enough barrel to cut a thread....... so i said shit, what do i do now? I took the plunge and bought a schneider 1-10 twist 26" barrel for it, i said what the hell while you have it apart go ahead and blue print the action. So i almost choked when i heard the price for this little adventure of 500.00 i thought to myself hell im into the gun 150.00 + the 500 so 650.00 total. I hope i didnt decide on a poor choice of components and i am excited for 5 weeks away and getting it back. i will deffinetely be posting pics and range reports, this will be my first actualy built gun. O i am also leaving it a 300 wsm for hog hunting lol

any comments? like how are the schneiders? vs douglas vs pac nor. did i make the right decision? heres the link to the gunsmith thats doing the work. He just had a big write up in jan 2011 guns and ammo mag for the 338 lapua they are now offering. http://www.therifleshop.com/

Schneider makes good barrels, the price tag sounds to be on par with what I see commonly on "blue print and tube please" jobs. Did that price of $650 include the barrel cost? Not a bad shake really. Unless that 'smith is a screwup I have every confidence that the rifle will shoot very very well when you get it back.

Cant hold my excitment much longer damnit, I pick the gun up tomorrow then puting in my order for an xlr chassis.

So my next dilemma, I now have a 700 la 7mm sitting here. Im wanting a long range coyote gun and am going to drop this rifle off at my smiths when i pick up the 300 wsm, i already have a 338 mag, couple of 308s, 243, 30/06, i dont have a 6.5 and i wont have a 7mm after this. What caliber for coyotes and 1000 yard shots would u guys reccomend, plus i like to have the ability to buy shelf ammo if needed.

O 1 last thing, i told randy i would pass on some info, he is building 338lm rifles starting at 2200.00, cz full blueprinted action, schneider 1-9 barrel, dagley muzzle brake, cz eht stock i believe is the name(looks like an a3) two stage trigger complete works of art, i myself have got the opportunity to shoot 1 of them and they are hammers. He was featured in the guns and ammo mag with his "338 super sniper" contact me if u need some more info guys,. thx again

When you start piecing together quality parts it can get costly. It is kind of like putting accessories on a car that you love it is hard to ever get you money out of it. You do it because you want to. And, of course I have paid lots of money to gunsmiths for work. Good thing I have a wife that is ok with it.
