Yesterday I was given 2 pounds of IMR 4350. One in the usual Plastic bottle and the other in an old school metal can. Has the formulation of this powder changed between old and the new? Will a load worked with the old be anywhere near useable with the new? This is for a 6.5x47 Lapua if it matters.

I have several cans of older 4350 and new plastic jugs and have used the same load data. I have load data in my personal notebooks going back to 1990 with 4350 and have not had to adjust loads due to changes in the powder. That may not exactly answer your question but it is my experience.

I can tell you that you should look at the powder to make sure all kernals at the same color. If you see some dark grey/black and others with a rusty appearance and a rusty powder on the inside of the can it is becoming unstable and should be thrown out.

I have used IMR powder from new containers clear back to when the can said IMPROVED MILITARY POWDER and all hit at the same point of impact at 300 and 500 meters .I am amazed that they can hold there quality control so well over more than 50 years . Arnie
