You have to step back and realize that causing any hostilities within Ukraine was totally counter-productive to Ukraine getting on favorable trade status with EU. It makes zero sense for Ukraine to initiate hostilities after Yanukovych was ousted. They wanted to get on with another election (without Russian interference), and start trading with an economic zone that would lift Ukraine out of abject poverty.
