Suppressors Is the YHM Phantom for .338 hearing safe on Lapua?

Just curious if these are going to be ears safe. Looking at specs (which tend to be optimistic) on the YHM site it looks like it's rated at -28dB and if a .338 Lapua is ~170dB this wouldn't seem to be ears safe on paper as it doesn't quite get it to that 140dB threshold. The price is real nice at $795 MSRP w/a QD threaded brake but if it's not ears safe then I'm not going to waste my time/money.

Thoughts?

It seems you are smart enough to know that it would have to be a 30+ db NSR reduction to fit the bill.

I know the AAC Titan is, but it costs a truckload.

Yeah, if I was in the position to spend that kind of money I would just get a ThunderBeast suppressor as I know they're amazing. Just trying to see if I can get an ears safe can for something more in my current range. I guess I was hoping that someone could say it worked for some reason but I can't justify spending money on a can that isn't ears safe.

www.silencerresearch.com was talking about metering some of these cans but the expense is enormous. </div></div>

Throw down some money big spender.....

I do not know what measurement location YHM has used for their public figures, but I would guess it is the 1 m left of the muzzle. What you have to take into account is that the SPL, unsuppressed or suppressed will be lower at the shooters ear.

For example a Sako TRG-42 measured at 170 dB unsuppressed 1 m left of the muzzle, is c. 160 dB at the shooters ear and for example with a net sound suppression of 28 dB, will be below the 140 dB threshold.
