Gunsmithing IT'S FINALLY HAPPENING!

Re: IT'S FINALLY HAPPENING!

Damn snow is killing me right now. We got dumped on again last night and more is in the forecast. Won't be sealing the floor till probably Sat/Sun.

Grrrrrrr!

Re: IT'S FINALLY HAPPENING!

Dang! You sure you're not starting a GUNMAKING school?? That is nice, with some serious elbow room! Are you going to show photos once you get your tooling arranged inside? That is what I want to see.

Was checking out your "About Us" link. Bet you've worked with Lones Wigger huh?

Re: IT'S FINALLY HAPPENING!

Looks great Chad. Congratulations! I'm from MN so it's good to know that we have a top local gunsmith available.

Re: IT'S FINALLY HAPPENING!

The only piece that place is lacking is a hitching post for the horses in front. Would give it a nice touch to the look.

Looks awesome though. Good luck with everything.

That is the damn truth!

Re: IT'S FINALLY HAPPENING!

Floor and paint is DONE! Have to let the floor finish harden for a few days then were ready. Picked up a nice dryer tonight for the air lines. I've got a run on a really nice compressor. We'll see how it pans out. If not its off to lowes.

Thinking the reloading bench and other odds/ends can move in by weeks end.

Re: IT'S FINALLY HAPPENING!

Well Chad, my weekend is open right now, if you need an extra truck & trailor shoot me a call or PM.

Maybe not.... not unless the owners of said four-legged vehicles offered to shovel their own $#!+....

Nice place BTW! Nice country to be in out there as well.

lol...I was just about to comment on that and then decided I'd be quiet. Then I seen this. Deffinately made me wonder why you'd need walls that thick.
Great looking building . I would love to have one that big. EVENTUALLY...it won't be big enough.

Re: IT'S FINALLY HAPPENING!

A few more updates.

Floor is DONE! Woo Hoo. 5 coats of wax and buffed last Friday.

Weekend was devoted to moving in the reloading room (that made the misses happy as the spare bedroom is now vacant again) and running all the air lines.

I used copper tubing and soldered joints. I stayed true to my wishes and ran bleeders at every machine connection. This in conjunction with my line dryer should make for trouble free operation. CNC's are fussy if their is water in the lines.

Re: IT'S FINALLY HAPPENING!

Sams and Lowes are going to have a good year if I have anything to say about it. Ours is moving locations so inventory is chit right now. Otherwise I'd have about 4 more of these things. I've bought a couple of the work stations with castors/drawers last year and they've done well.

I sure as hell couldn't build one that cheap!

Re: IT'S FINALLY HAPPENING!

More progress.

The "hard part" is all that remains. Equipment moving is this weekend. With any luck I'll be turn key by Monday Morning.

Not too shabby for a fat kid.

Thanks for everyone's support during this. Much appreciated.

Chrome wire shelving is quite possibly one of the best inventions ever...Beautiful shop!

Re: IT'S FINALLY HAPPENING!

Just finished soldering up all my CAT 5 communications terminals for the machines. Woo Hoo!

Plug and play from here on out! Cable guy is here hooking up the interwebz stuff. Should be on my own system by day's end.

Gettin closer!

Re: IT'S FINALLY HAPPENING!

Holy chit is all I can say. Looks kinda like a kitchen in a Vegas casino only cleaner and no illegals.
smile.gif
That is going to be quite the setup. Only thing is having to walk all the way across the shop to get something you forgot on the other side. You will be played out by the end of the day. My room is 14x16 so I can nearly plant my chubby welfare ass in the middle and reach everything.lol

Is that a Prazi or Emco? Guessing from the blurred print on the front a Prazi. Nice little machines!

Hope things go well moving the heavy stuff.

Re: IT'S FINALLY HAPPENING!

Prazi!

My neck turning little bastage!! I've got a DRO for it somewhere and I recently installed a micro Aloris style post on the carriage.

Super tight spindle for such a little chit.

Man that was one 'huge' urinal!!!! How would you like to be the janitor that had to reach into that when the foam, froth, puke and last nights beer was about an inch below the rim and drain was clogged from cig butts???? If only it could talk about who came to the trough and how many inches they was packin!!!!!

Ahhhhh, what a parrrr tay..............

Yea, I know, I have waaayyyyy toooooo much time to think disgusting things and attempt poor humor. LOL

Re: IT'S FINALLY HAPPENING!

Chad,

I feel your pain, in the process of moving our barrel manufacturing, but luckily my move is within the plant and the floors and lighting were done, and yours is looking quite nice..my headaches was air, electric, everything else, haha..halfway there, but I know the move will have been worth it, and I'm sure you get a kick out of seeing a plan come together..I'll have to make a trip up your way if I'm in the neighborhood..

Re: IT'S FINALLY HAPPENING!

Magnificent Chad

Can't wait to see a photo with all my bits & pieces in that shop!

Nice engine turner too mate!

Murph.

Re: IT'S FINALLY HAPPENING!

Chad,

Oh ohoh, I can see my gun case in the background in one photo. I'm really stoked for you man. Curious, how did you manage to move all that equipment? How many guys does it take to move the big stuff?

Re: IT'S FINALLY HAPPENING!

Van,

Equipment gets moved this weekend. Everything starts at 0900 tomorrow. I'm headed to the old shop now to start cleaning out the machines, sumps, and disconnecting the power.

We'll skate them outside and then pick em with the fork.

The new shop will be easy. Just drive in and plop em down. Level them out, fill the sumps with sterilizer, and once the power's back on we'll let em run for about 5 hours to kill any remaining bacteria in the coolant systems. (I do this about every six months to prevent the machines from developing yeast infections

)

I'll be making chips by Sunday afternoon I hope. Monday for sure.

Machines are set. leveling and gassing up the coolant tanks now. Have to make trip to pick up the junction boxes for the power and then I'm SET.

The following people are awesome:

None of this would have happened as smooth/easy as it did without their help.

Kalli and I are very grateful.

Levi W
Tyler D
Fork lift guy
Old guy
Other old guy

and finally, Kalligirl! What a woman!

Re: IT'S FINALLY HAPPENING!

Gonna be a machinists dream shop it looks to me!!!

I am getting the idea that you are a near perfectionist with eveything you do, own etc. Nothing like pride in ones work eithics and environment, says alot about what the finished product outcome bill be!

Also, uhmmmm, you uh don't seem to have anything in that shop that is 'average'!
wink.gif
Guess I need to walk in there and you will at least for a short time have something ugly, below average, obsolete and not easy to look at for any length of time
smile.gif

Congrats on your near finished workplace and your business being an asset to our fine state!

Respectfully,
Dennis

PS- Been gonna ask, are you related to Bill Dixon by any chance?

Re: IT'S FINALLY HAPPENING!

Looks great Chad. Was going to come over with Jamie but got calves hitting the ground and I got the day shift so couldn't weasel away. Can't wait to come see it one of these days.

Re: IT'S FINALLY HAPPENING!

I was adopted at birth.

I may be "related" to Bill, but don't know. If he has family in the Pine River MN area then probably.

Carlyle is my adopted father's name.
