They didn't say what was in it because that is much more fun and lets people draw their own conclusions.
the loot is in the case, stuff worth fighting and dying for.
I always assumed it was the loot and it didn't belong to them but someone in a position above them so it was well guarded.
According to one of the actors, the briefcase contains a light bulb and a heavy ass battery.
Gold. But that answer is too short according to the reply box....so....I guess...I personally think....and can only assume....but it isn't necessarily.......gold. Or a lightbulb and a heavy battery is most likely what was actually in there....or gold colored aluminum foil....possibly caramel candy....or the yellow brick road.
