I did a shit ton of research (short time frame but lots of hours) before purchasing a SR-25 ECR late last week. The MAMS (Multi Axis Muzzle Stability) device got a lot of mention for being super effective.

Does anyone even own one? It doesn't show in the commercial catalogue, only the military. I know KevinB has one, but he's a military sales rep. Is there anywhere to buy one?

I'm curious because... well, because I'm curious I guess.

Thanks,

-Bob

lawmens is getting some of the 762's in this week I hear, I would grab one but I prefer surefire suppressors to KAC so I'm stuck with their flash hider.

Cool. They were shipping me some stuff today, so I shot them an email to see what the deal is.

Good to see some pieces making it out of KAC. I almost went with the MAMS for my SR15 MOD1 but I ordered a p/n 30555 QDC 3-prong flash eliminator in January from Lawemans and still waiting for it...... :(

Kevin, any news on these?

556 QDC muzzle device got changed a little bit, one of our government customers needed the body to be 22mm for Rifle Grenade and (believe it or not) bayonet applications. So the body and mount changed in diameter, one of the things we noticed on the first test runs of these, is that the suppressors 'stuck' on the QDC Flash Hider with a great deal of vigor, and so they mount was redesgined a few more times until we where (and the customer) was happy with it.

SO... They are now in production and should be shipping shortly -- this also held up the 556MAMS, however due to its construction, it did not stick like the 3 Prong Flash Hide, and did not require as significant reworking.

I really like the 7.62 MAMS, and IMO it is the best 7.62 brake out there. I've shot it quite a bit on my EMC, which I've also shot with the original M110 FH. Additionally, I've shot another ECC with a Surefire MB, plus I've stood next to guns being shot by somebody else.

My impressions:
The MAMS obviously reduces the felt recoil and muzzle rise compared to the FH quite significantly. Conversly, the FH also is more effective at reducing muzzle flash as compared to the MAMS.

That being said, whats most important is the comparison with the Surefire MB. Between those two, I would say felt recoil is identical. As far as muzzle rise, the Surefire does a great job as long as the rifle is held and fired level. Should you tilt the rifle - i.e. to fire with an offset site, around a barricade, etc. then it will "push" off square to the rifle - which depending on your position may pose a problem. A great example of this happened during a LAV battle rifle class; one of the students had a 7.62 AR with a Surefire MB on it and they had a 45 offset red-dot. When he tried to shoot quick drills up close with the offset redot, the surefire kept pushing the off slightly - slowing him down. While he was running the drill, we could all see what was going on - it was that perceivable. The MAMS doesn't really have this problem - hence why it is called the MAMS (Multiple Axis Muzzle Stability).
As far as flash suppression, I definitely feel that the MAMS is more effective than the Surefire MB. Now, where the MAMS really shines is the concussion. To the shooter, the MAMS is by far more pleasant to shoot. It doesn't beat the shit out of you, like shooting the Surefire MB on a 7.62 gun for an entire day. To a bystander, the MAMS is still much better than the Surefire. While the MAMS has more blast than compared to the FH, it has much less than the Surefire MB. Now, standing next to a MAMS being shot on a 7.62, still has decent concussive blast - but it is significantly better than the Surefire MB.

Quick "review." The MAMS is a nice product. It keeps the muzzle dead on POA through recoil. In that respect it is very effective. Personally, I don't feel that it reduces felt recoil much at all. In that respect, the Surefire is more effective (to me.) I haven't shot it at night yet and I haven't shot it in any canted or offset positions either, so I can't comment on the other benefits.

I really would like to cover it up with a QDS suppressor, if KAC would ramp up production enough that I could get my hands on one.

bm11,

Your review of the MAMS reminds me of my regrettable decision to buy a BABC brake due to the fanboy reviews on m4carbine and lightfighter forums...what a waste of $200...my $100 PWS and $80 MSTN brakes were far more effective at reducing felt recoil, and they were no louder than the BABC according to the people on either side of me.

I hope you keep your objectivity when you shoot the KAC rifle for groups.

Nice rifle btw.

When comparing it to the Surefire, did you shoot the MAMS with the rifle prone on a bipod? I shoot my MAMS on my 16" ECC mainly standing for carbine competitions. When I shot the Surefire it was also standing during a competition. I'm curious if that has any effect at all. I pretty much shot them one after the other - and I couldn't tell a difference in recoil reduction. I'll have to compare them again shooting off bipods.

Yes prone. That is primarily how I have been shooting it, being that most of my shooting has been load development so far. The Surefire was on an MWS and it was also mostly shot prone, though I did do some offhand with it as well. I'll get some positional in next time I shoot and get back to youbon how it handles.

After some more rounds through it, I do think that the recoil reduction may be better than I gave it credit for. I had a couple other shooters shoot it and they both agreed that the recoil on the rifle is negligible. I think that my initial lack of "wow" more than anything is due to the fact that the recoil was soft to begin with. The Surefire brake on the LMT made a much larger difference.

Just got one - finally. Popped it on tonight, will shoot it soon. Better be good!

Does anyone know where I can buy a MAMS 7.62 with 5/8x24 threads? I just bought and tried the 5.56 version and absolutely love it. It is very effective. I really want to try our the 7.62 MAMS on my LaRue OBR.

Any updates on this topic? Anyone have any intel on QDC suppressors? Im thinking about pulling the Surefire brake off the P tobr and adding this to the already way to decked gun
