Kestrel Meters Ballistics Official Thread

@Kestrel Ballistics

Kestrel 5700 Elite on FW 1.53.

Firmware update failed multiple times via Kestrel Link Ballistics.

Downloaded Kestrel Link (non ballistic) and firmware update failed.

Ran factory reset on Kestrel and tried update - fail.

Multiple times the update says complete on my phone. Profiles are deleted/adjusted on kestrel, but update is not completed.

Any thoughts?

I had the same issue with 3 different phones and 3 different internet providers. I ended up putting the Kestrel in weather mode and using airplane mode and mine finally took.

Using the Kestrel Ballistics app, my Elite took the first time, said it was updated yet it still showed version 1.53 in About. It no longer gave me the option to upgrade FW when I connected.

Updated the 5700X using the non-ballistic Kestrel Link and it worked. Used it on the Elite and it first said it was updated but when I clicked look for updates it gave me the option to update. That update did the same thing, said it completed and still showed 1.53. I'm upgrading it again with it in weather mode vs ballistics. I'm not able to put my phone in airplane mode and still do the update. I've got just wifi on and cellular data disabled this time.

That happened to me a couple times - phone reported update complete, and kestrel still showed 1.53.

Mines now updated to 1.57. Couldn’t say what finally made it push over.

Anyone have any suggestions on problems with getting the kestrel to sync profiles with quantum? Sometimes I have to push "overwrite" 10-20 times before the profile actually sync's and of course this is always at the worst possible time at a match when I need to make a quick change. Running android and 5700 elite, everything is on newest versions. Maybe this goes in the Quantum thread?

When this happens try pulling the battery while holding the power button and continue to hold the power button for 20 seconds. Then put the battery back in and try again.

curious when doing this do you continue holding the power button when putting battery back in?

Will the kestrel show any sign that its been "re-set"?
A couple other things to consider.

1) Make sure Bluetooth is set to "MAX" on the models that have this feature.

2) Make sure the PIN feature is set to OFF.

3) Make sure you have a good battery reading more than 40% (Lithium Energizer is the recommended type).

4) Make sure you have battery type set to Lithium in the Kestrel settings.

You will know because the screen will "die off" while you are holding the power button. You don't need to hold power while inserting. Just while removing and make sure to hold for at least 20 seconds - 30 seconds.

Mine was a different issue that I was trying to resolve but it actually ended up being my bino's.

I'm wanting to re-set it now since I've noticed my compass cal takes 4-5 attempts every time.
