I did a ladder test last Sunday and I have a couple questions about the results. Test was done at 400 yds, no wind. I believe I have a node around 41grains.
Why do you think the POI shifted to the left after 2628 fps? Do you guys see anything else? Thanks for the help. Also why does just a link to my pic show up?

Here's the gun:
Savage FCP-HSP (removed HS stock replaced w/mcrees)
nosler brass
cci primers
rl-15
175 smk
2.80 oal

Re: ladder test results question

I am not sure why your Images arent showing up I would recomend trying photobucket it works everytime.

Looking at that it looks like you have noted at 40-41 and 41.5-42.5. at this point you could either do another ladder test in these ranges going down to a .1 or .2 grain increase with each charge or you could load up some loads of 40.5 and 42 and see how they print for you.

Re: ladder test results question

I agree, 41 looks to be the low node. For reference, could you tell me what the group between 40 an 41 measures for vertical.

Re: ladder test results question

Yup just under 41. Though that's pretty slow. FWIW I use the same components and my node is 42.0 at 2620. It's a bit weird to me though that everything just keeps climbing. I have a nice wave in mine... up, down, up, down, up....

Left shift; I see the same, more of a diagonal. You sure the wind stayed zero? What's the barrel specs?

Re: ladder test results question

2.56" vertical between 40, 40.5 and 41. Barrel is stock savage 24". I was a little disappointed to see only one node and especially so slow.

Re: ladder test results question

OK, so you're looking at about .64 moa vertical. Did you hit max pressure or show any pressure signs at 44.5? If not, you might work up slowly from there, maybe in .2 or .3 increments. I find many high nodes are right at or just under max pressure.

Re: ladder test results question

I had rounds loaded up to 46gr, but had a sticky bolt and saw marks from the extractor, so I stopped at 44.5

Re: ladder test results question

I'd go over the 2500 to 2700 range again with smaller steps (.2 gr) and see what you see, you may have missed something. Just a thought.
