Okay everybody my google fu is weak. I'm a cross eye dominant shooter and learning the whole lefty thing. I'm thinking of getting a rifle built in lefty and know that several companies make a left hand 700, but who makes stocks. I'm partial to the ai aics 2.0 but haven't seen one pic or piece of literature offering it left handed. Now I'm open to other ideas I have just run out of places to look for something I want. Yes I've seen MCM and H-S.

Re: Lefties?

New muscle memory in your left side sucks to learn, It just feels wrong after 20 years of doing it the other way. Oh well just another excuse to practice,

My right eye is degenerating to the point I can't focus on close objects with glasses.

just doesn't work for me. Besides I just got done building the AR-15 and now I want another bolt gone bigger than 5.56 and smaller than 50 bmg.

Re: Lefties?

I'm a lefty, but shoot right handed guns. Been doing it all my life. I don't think I could get used to left handed gun...just feels too weird to me.

Re: Lefties?

I'm left handed and own one left handed bolt gun, and countless numbers of right hand. In 1969 I bought 6mm Rem, 788 Left hand, still have it, have shot tons of deer with it and a lot of everything else, but still can't get use to that left hand bolt. I can shoot a right hand bolt much faster than the left hand. I have never even considered buying another left hand rifle after getting that one.

Yeah okay, tell that to this guy who's working the bolt with his trigger hand....

Per "topic", I'm southpaw, and buy/build lefty rifles, and on purpose.

McM stocks rock......

Re: Lefties?

this is my opinion.....i don't understand how left handed folks say they can't get used to a lefty bolt.....did you really try, or did you work the bolt once and then sit there looking at it with a frown?.....i've shot right handed rifles all of my life, but bought a left handed tikka t3 3 yrs ago.....five minutes of fiddling with it and i was hooked....now, a right handed bolt feels weird.....i can still shoot both, but i won't ever buy a "righty" again, jus sayin.

Re: Lefties?

H-S is an okay stock. I posted a thread on the gunsmith section about my latest build. I trained my 13yo son from 6 to shoot right handed. As he gets older he has become very left eye dominant. When got behind the rifle left handed I figured it was time for a lefty for him.
The good news is his weak side shooting will be as good or better than his strong side.
McM, AI, H-S, all would be acceptable choices. I built his on H-S but I personally shoot my rifles in McM A5 stocks. The AI folder may be my next stock for a compact lightweight rifle I am planning.

I thought that too until I shot a left handed rifle for the first time this year. It was amazing how quickly I got accustomed to the lefty rifle and it felt really natural. I am having two left handed builds done right now it felt so good. You can see the specs on the builds on this thread Lefty Builds

Most all of the large stock manufacturers can make a lefty. You can also buy a left handed Remington or go custom with Defiance or Stiller actions. Not sure why Surgeon never made a lefty action.

What I don't understand is how so many "true" rifleman can't shoot both left and right handed. I don't mean a lefty shooting both off his left shoulder, or visa versa...I mean shoot off of BOTH shoulders. True ambidextrious application of fire.

Can't know how many times I had no choice but to shoot off of my "weak" shoulder....

If anyone wants to see how it's done I'll post a couple vids of my right handed/right eye dominant sons, ages 8 and 13 at the time, shooting my left handed rifle off of their left shoulders, and making hits at 500 yards.

It's a good skill to hone razor sharp.......

Re: Lefties?

I am a right handed shooter and have been since I was knee high to dad. With a pistol its easy to compensate by just moving the pistol over but as time goes on I cant even see through an eotech with my right eye. I'm now shooting my AR ambi but results arent very pretty on the right. I even asked about a bifocal for the right but the optrician (Navy LT) said I wouldn't benefit. That leaves me with shooting lefty on a bolt rifle. The way I see it if you use your support hand to cycle the bolt you entirely compromise your base and change your position behind the rifle slowing you down when it comes to getting on target especially in transition between multiples. Using the trigger hand to cycle is fine because your not using the trigger at that exact moment anyway and reseting allows you to remember the fundamentals. I truly believe that a left hand setup will not only alleviate the eye problem but end up allowing me to maximize my shooting potenital in the long run. I thank you all for your input as to continuing right handed but I just dont think it will work in my case. As I stated earlier I only get red fuzz on an Eotech which really inhibits placing rounds accuratley at any distance to the point I primarly shoot lefty with the AR which is set up ambi anyway. Again thank you for all the input.

Edit: And the surgeon thing if I remember my machine shop class running a HAAS mill and lathe it was pretty easy to mirror a project (right to left) but that was ten years ago. Maybe enough cosumer support would entice them to consider a lefty run but that would take a bit of cooridination that I don't have time for right now.
