Hello.

I was hoping the vast experience of this site could help me out with a little dilemma.

I am looking for a proper optic to mount to my up-and-coming LMT .308 MWS build

https://www.lewismachine.net/product.php...8926d5fec0ed93c

The rifle will be used for accurate semi-auto "hits" on a man sized target from 100yds to say 800yds with the occasional 1000yds shot. I'm not looking for crazy accuracy, just pretty darn good for what the rifle is.

The "wants" I have established thus far are...
- decent magnification. (say around 20X)
- FFP
- Illuminated reticle
- BDC (callibrated to common .308 round)

I've been looking at Leupold, Nightforce, Pride-Fowler RR-900 (interesting). But your suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The budget will be hopefully under $2000. The rifle isn't cheap so I don't mind spending some dough on it though a $3000 USO or S&B is out of the question.

So, What say you??

Re: LMT .308 MWS Optic

I think you are way over scoping that platform. If I were you I would wait a couple of months and take a look at the new S&B 1-8.If you can't wait for that the Leup 2-8 with the m2 knob or the NF 2-10(Kenton bdc) would be good choices as well.

If your realy hung on more scope an S&B or Hensoldt 3-12,4-16 will fill the bill.At that point you want to move beyond BDC's and learn your dope.Though I believe Kenton industries will make a BDC for some of the S&B stuff.

Very nice glass, but it has the same problem as the 1-4...the eye relief changes rather dramatically as the power is advanced.

Just get the swfa 3-9 or 10x and call it a day. Its a semi-auto not a 260 surgeon.

WTF are you talking about? The eye relief changes nil on the S&B short dot 1-4..

Some good advice!

there should be no problem banging steel at 800 with 8x.

Re: LMT .308 MWS Optic

Look into the NF 2.5-10x32 with LV reticle. It is a pretty much perfect match for a 308 round. I have it on my FNAR which has a 20" barrel and I was banging 1/2 man size steel at 600yards without much effort. It also keeps the weight down cause the LMT is already a pig.

I kinda had that thought as well. My first interests were either a Leupold lr/t 3.5-10x40 M3 illuminated or the Pride-Fowler RR900 which fit all my criteria.

Re: LMT .308 MWS Optic

I was noticing that the NF low velocity reticle may be a good match for the MWS. Of course that would also depend on what ammunition you intend to regular shoot.

Re: LMT .308 MWS Optic

I shoot steel IPSC targets between 300-800 yards with my LMT MWS, outstanding rifle BTW. I put the SWFA Super Sniper 3-9 on it after using a M1A NM with this scope on it for several months. IMO the 20X you mentioned is way too much for the type of shooting you mentioned. A scope of that power also needs a parallax adjustment which is one more adjustment you have to make between shots at different ranges. I have no problems shooting at 12" steel discs at 800 yards at 9X. I have had no problems with parallax with this scope. As for "BDC with a common 308 round", I think you may be disappointed. The odds of your 16" barrels velocity matching a fixed BDC out to 800 yards are pretty slim. The mildot can serve the same function if you know your load and your range. Better still is the mil/mil adjustment that can be used to quickly dial in corrections if you observe your bullet strike. What you see is what you dial. The adjustments on these scopes are precise and accurate, the glass is excellent and they are rugged. If you settle on a good load you can get a blank turret to send to Kenton Industries for marking, (see link below). Do a search and find a review that Lowlight, (the owner of Snipers Hide), did on this scope. Don't judge this scope by its price. You are buying from the manufacture and it is a bargain. To get this quality in another scope brand you will pay much more.

Re: LMT .308 MWS Optic

10x will be enough magnification to hit out to 1k. If your set on a higher magnification the new Leupold FFPs are pretty nice from what I hear. Mike w/ CSTactical did a review on his website.

I've been looking at those. I wish they offered ffp with an illuminated reticle
