LMT .308 MWS

Check out the sr25 cartel barrels. They are made for the SR25. I had d. Wilson convert one for me, turned out great. I have yet to shoot it but I have little doubt it will preform well.
I looked at those. They look cool, but they are twice the price of the Craddock RTR 6.5 barrels.
If the Craddock RTR shoots like any other Craddock and is reliable unsuppressed as well as suppressed, that just seems like a solid move to me.

If you are looking at the RTR line then it definitely makes sense to go that route. If they have what you are after I'm sure it will serve you well.

My chrome lined barrel is settling in. Loves FGMM, hates AAC (even though speed, ES and SDs are similar).

just purchased an older lmt chambered in 308 and will be switching out the barrel to a 6.5. How does the ss lmt barrel compare to having one made?

My factory LMT SS barrel certainly doesn’t disappoint.

Those of you handloading for your LMT's, how much are you bumping shoulders, the usual .002" or do you give a gas gun a little more ?

Most of my fired cases according to my hornady comparator are coming out 1.632"

I did have 2 out of 10 at 1.630" and 1 at 1.6295"

I'm leaning towards 1.629" and roll with it. This 16" CL likes factory 168 hornday black so I've got some Amax's and imr4064 that I'm going to try.

I do 4 thou, think that is plenty. But just my opinion. Im sure other might do the 2 thou. But believe it's what one wants.

I bump mine back 4 thousandths as well.

I shoot suppressed 95% of the time , never had any issues. But I don’t really get hung up on brass life too much.

Someone is usually selling a lot of used 308 brass for a good price

Starting to get my MWS upgraded to get it out shooting again. Have a 15.5" MLOK upper and am getting it outfit with some Dwilson Arca rails. What do you guys recommend for Atlas compatible bipod adapters?

I’ve gone back and forth on selling this rifle. Since getting into precision bolt guns the “cool factor” of a semi-auto precision rifle has dwindled for me.

When the ZC420 arrived I had a hard time wanting to let go of that optic, since I originally purchased it for this rifle.

I didn’t realize just how much the resale value of LMT’s have dipped since I put this thing together, so deciding to just keep it.

Shoutout to Tony @ MKMaching for giving me a great deal on the optic

I’ve been using 147 ELDM for the 65 CM in my PF CF DWilson spun barrel.

Found I had to load it a little hotter to maintain similar velocities to the factory 147 ELDM. No pressure signs or anything like that,,and still within the limit for H4350 loads.

Shoots like a dream.

I’ve just picked up the 308 piston upper and will start playing with that. I’ve got crazy amounts of 175 FGMM, so that’s the plan for that barrel… though I also have a lot of German mild steel M80.

That's what I figured. It's almost worth just having a premium cut rifled blank made with an intermediate length, interference fit gas block and getting it converted with an LMT extension.
14.5” Intermediate and 16” rifle gas barrels seem to run fine. One of my buddies shoots a 14.5 and I have several 16” rifle gas set ups. I get the “extreme reliability” claim but damn. It’s like Colt still using carbine gas on their 6920’s.

Mid-length gas tubes must be cheaper. Lol

Any difference than the LMT barrels that were already available on your site?

I’m still going back and forth on buying a factory barrel or having you do a conversion for my MWS.

These are the barrels listed on our site. We made a trip out to LMT the other week to see them getting finished up in production and test fired prior to shipping to us.

I guess I’m living under a rock. I bought my 7.62 CL 16 inch MWS around 2011. I thought they were all old school gas operated. Super happy with it. Put a heavier buffer in it and it shoots great with or without a can. Kills the shit out of pigs and deer.

When did they bring out a piston version?

Ok, time to pick everyone's brain. Just had mine out at the range for the first time:

- 175gr FGMM and 168 Norma from G3 Pmags, unsuppressed
- Repeated failures to eject/feed during the first 10 rounds with gradual improvement (e.g. FTE/FTF the first 4, then it would cycle 2, then 3)
- After 80-100 rounds, still occasional failures to feed but not as common. Consistent ejection pattern at 4 - 4:30 . Bolt locked back on last round

Is mine potentially undergassed? Maybe just tight tolerances or a tight chamber breaking in considering the gradual improvement?

FTE and FTF both sounds like a mag issue. With new mags, sometimes there is too much pressure on the cartridge to the underside of the carrier. This can slow carrier movement in both directions and cause what you’re describing.

Thanks. Have you noticed any differences between the 10/20/25 round G3 Pmags in terms of spring pressure? Mine were all 20 rounders, but I have some 25s on hand to test today

EDIT: Put ~150 through today:
S setting, Sandman K... No go
N setting, Sandman K.. Reliable, 3pm
S setting, Enticer S... Reliable, 4pm
Unsuppressed... Sporadic malfunctions, no BHO on 25rd pmag

I'm going to swap to an H2 for the time being. Whether mag or rifle at cause, it's just not getting enough juice across the board

My go to function test is to load a single round in the mag, close the bolt and fire.

  • Doesn’t strip the round, probably a spring or mag issue
  • Doesn’t extract, look at the extractor or chamber
  • Extracts but doesn’t eject, ejector or carrier velocity issue
  • Doesn’t lock back, likely a gassing issue.
