I have a pistol (Yugo M57 version of the TT-33 Tokarev) that apparently has a fairly soft slide. When the slide recoils to force down the disconnect, an increasingly-large dimple/gouge is created. I have carefully stoned the affected surface of the slide and very slightly rounded the edges of the disconnect pin, but it continues to ding up the slide. I use lots of grease at that point.
Since I enjoy shooting this pistol, I am wondering if there is a way to surface harden the small affected area of the slide without destroying the heat treatment of the rest of the slide. (I'm assuming that at least some heat treatment was done.) My suspicion is that this can't be done or at least that it would be prohibitively difficult and expensive.
There is a newer Cerakote product (can't remember the name), but I'm not sure how well it would hold up to that level of abuse.
Thank you for any insight you may have.
Cheers,
Richard
