For those of you who read books. I read a lot of WWII history and bio's of people who interest me. I read Lone Survivor by Marcus Luttrell and its an awesome book. About Seal Team in Afghanistan. I went to Huntsville Texas after reading and took in a leacture by him and met him afterward. He is all Alpha Male blood and guts no BS kinda dude. The book was a best seller for good reason.

Stacy

Several members are good friends of Marcus' and he is a straight shooter for sure, even if he has missed turkeys on his hunting show!

Re: Lone Survivor

I wish I had picked this book up A LONG Time ago. I'm only about a 100+ pgs into it, but all I can say is: Respectfully in EVERY Possible Way, Thank you.

And.........I need to step up my training/mental focus: I AM NOT WORTHY

Makes you feel like a little ________.

fwiw: I was reading this in bed, all comfortable, & warm. Stopped at about 50-60 pgs. Told my wife I'm a little _______ compared to what these Men/"Warriors" go through 24/7. Than off to the gym for another 2.5 hrs. Returned, explained to wife why I left & reason for the extra grm session = NOT WORTHY . . . . she said "good" w/ a smile. To me = MOTIVATION. Again, THANK YOU.

+1 A MUST READ

Have a great one,
FTK

Re: Lone Survivor

I just finished it and can't thank Marcus enough for sharing Seal Team 10's story. The selflessness of all four of those men trying to keep each other alive is beyond anything I have ever read before. I too will see Marcus one day and shake his hand.

Danny's actions while mortally wounded, Mike making that phone call in the open, Axe burning two more 9mm magazines after the RPG, Marcus retreiving Danny, not quitting after all of the falls and injuries...then walking/crawling/climbing 7 miles after getting blown to hell and back and shrapnel injuries.

I was a AT2 (Aviation Electronics Tech) in the Navy for six years and ran into some of these guys while working base security TAD (Virginia Beach) plus we had a teams on board at times during the '89 Cruise and Desert Storm. I was in awe of them then and didn't know any details about anything they did (just knew they were bad asses). Even with my limited interaction and imagination, I was in awe with this book.

Now I have to buy a signed copy just because.

Re: Lone Survivor

Great book, lent it to a friend who bought his own copy. An just recommended it to another friend yesterday.
.
Was truly pissed when I heard about what that POS did to Marcus's dog.
.
An thought it was great when I saw his show!! Great American..tell your friends buy the book!!

Re: Lone Survivor

Read this a few years ago when it first came out. Great book. I passed it on to many friends. Im gonna read it again one of these days.

Re: Lone Survivor

Great story but quite a mess of a book. Luttrell is a hero and the team put up one hell of a fight - deserving all of our respect. However it was frustrating to see the book deviate constantly into political attacks and backbite at everyone who wasn't part of their tight little group, including sister services. I guess writing about the events alone wasn't enough.

Re: Lone Survivor

Just read this book......I'll never forget it! Can't quit thinking about the shit those four guys went through. It's a shame these brave men are forgotten as we get caught up in our daily lives.

Re: Lone Survivor

What is interesting is that I read this book Chechen Jihad: Al Qaeda's Training Ground and the Next Wave of Terror and in it says that those guys were setup. Some taliban spy alerted the local taliban in the area that they were coming. Not sure if it is correct or not because it is the only place that I read that.

Re: Lone Survivor

I read the book awhile back. What I liked was how he survived after the battle. Marcus has an extremely large set of stones.
Would love to buy him a beer!

Re: Lone Survivor

It's a big responsibility making this book into a movie. I hope they take it seriously and honor those in the team that didn't make it. Looking forward to seeing the movie after enjoying the book (twice).
