Hey Experts, I need some help narrowing my search for glass.

First things first, here’s the details;

● What is the platform for the scope? Bolt Rifle
● What cartridge are you shooting? .300 BLK Subs
● What is your intended use for the scope? Target/Steel
● What type of conditions will you typically shoot in? Daylight
● What are the typical distances you intend to shoot? 100-600yds
● Are there any specific specifications you would like? FFP, MOA, Larger elevation range,
and zero stops
● What is the price range you can afford? $1000

So I’ve been building up a range toy, lobbing .300 BLK subs out pretty far. The glass thats on it now is a SWFA SS 12x on a Seekins 30 MOA base and it’s everything that people said it would be, real happy with it. I’ve only stretched the legs out to 400yds with it, and now that I’ve had some trigger-time with the current setup I know that I want a little more magnification. Accurate tracking is super important due to the crazy trajectory of subs out to those distances, and a healthy elevation range is equally important. Off my head, I would like to have at a minimum 100 minutes between the glass and base (not counting reticle holdover). I’d also like to keep the price below $1000, but if something falls slightly outside that budget yet has a big upgrade in quality, I’d
consider it.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Honestly, while it does not checkmark everything for you, I have been using SWFA SS 3-15x42 for this kind of stuff. It has around 140 MOA of adjustment range and you can get it with a MOA-Quad reticle.

Another good option is Burris XTR II 3-15x50 with SCR MOA reticle. It has 110MOA of elevation adjustment plus the reticle, so you should be good. XTRII has a good record of tracking well. This one, I think, satisfies all of your requirements.

Leupold LRP 4.5-14x50 also does, I think, but I have not tested the tracking and historically, this design has not been all that great toward the edges of adjustment.

If Sightron S3 6-24x50 had a bit more adjustment range, it would be just about perfect for you.

Thanks for the reply! I looked at the variable power SWFA SS's, and it's what I originally was going to go with before I decided to seek some extra suggestions.

I hadn't looked at that Sightron, you're right, everything looks perfect except for the elevation travel.

Ill have to look more into the XTR, I wish it had a little bit more magnification but everything else fits the bill.

I've done a little bit more research since getting home from work and was pleasantly surprised to find out that I can get a Gen 1 Razor 5-20x for $1200 new with my discount. I think that's close enough to my budget for the quality jump, anyone have any opposing thoughts?

You won’t hear any objections from me. If you can swing it, they are great scopes! I’ve owned 2 now and am seriously considering snagging a 3rd one. Never had a problem with tracking, and they do have that huge amount of adjustment. I’d say though, at around the $1200 mark, you might be able to find a good deal on an Athlon Cronus BTR. To me, they are a better scope than the Razors.... just throwing out another option.

More magnification puts the 16x and 20x SWFA's out, they don't have the glass quality for that mag IMO. They have a ton of travel though.

If you can I've with MOA knobs and MIL reticle the old 16x Leupold MK4's have a ton of travel as well. They have pretty nice glass as well.

You may also want to consider optics with good tree reticles to dial some and hold the rest.
