OK...building a high end 300WM in the fall, I've got action, stocks on order and still choosing scope and barrel...

The end goal is the lightest tactical rifle I can put together...

Stock is a McMillan Game Scout with graphite cloth at somewhere around 30oz or so...scope going to be 22-28oz

Barrel...anyone familiar with the Lothar Walther Ultra Light Weight sleeved barrel? According to my emails back and forth with them I can get a Varmint profile match quality 21 3/4" barrel blank pressed into an aluminum sleeve and be at 2lbs finished product...I don't think the ABS Carbon Fiber can do that...

Feedback? Anyone familiar with Lothar Walthers accuracy? This particular barrel?

Price is about the same $835-850 for the LW and $950ish for the ABS Carbon Fiber.

Like I said...shaving weight is my end goal. The barrel will sport a brake.

Re: Lothar Walther Alum UL or ABS Carbon Fiber?

I have a CRF model 70 that is begging me for a Lothar UL barrel. Normally I only use Krieger but I have shot a few LW barrels. I couldn't tell a difference in accuracy.

I never considered the ABS because carbon fiber is an insulat

LW make great barrels from what I hear. If you use one of there LW-50 barrels that will probably work well with larger round such as the 300WM.

Their LW50 steel is known for being very strong and harder then the traditional 410 and 416 stainless you see.

I hope you eat your Wheaties, even with a brake that bitch is gonna kick!

Post pics when your done, I would love to see it.

Gonna shoot a buddies Savage 111 LW this weekend in 30-06...6.5lbs he's got some hot 30-06 loads that come close to 300WM levels in recoil...we'll see...might change calibers if its too bad...

I am also thinking of putting together an ultra light tactical rig similar to yours. I would settle on 260 or 7-08 though.
A few years ago I made a carbon stock 700grams for Roedale who built a light tactical rifle for the IWA show, this rifle had a LW Alu barrel and weighed total of 2.9kg without scope.

On my project I'll try get the weight of our E-Tac stock with adjustable cheek down to 32 Oz. Reduce weight in the mag system and fit a 20" LW alu barrel and 6.5-20 conquest.
This will look similar to my 243 just be a nice bit lighter.

Ive done some extensive long term testing on the LW alloy sleeved barrels.
I can vouch for thier accuracy. they would be my first choice for a light weight barrel.

PGM Precision from France also use a LW sleeved barrel in thier " Intervention" version of the Ultima Ratio. ( the one that has the vent ribs) Its set up slightly differently, but same principle.
