After good success with my 25WSSM I bought a 223WSSM. I am unable to get close to published velocities within the max that Hodgdon gives on their site. Browning A-Bolt Medallion with BOSS the barrel is 22" with the boss on the end.
Pushing a 40gr Nosler BT Varmit COL 2.220" WLR primer with 44.5 grains of Varget (max +1.0) to reach 3945fps. They claim 4278 with 43.5gr. No pressure signs, I'm thinking about climbing up in .5gr increments.
I had to use 43.5grs of 4064 (max +1.7) to push a 55gr Nosler BT Varmit to 3800fps. I had no pressure signs.
Is this normal for this cartridge or is hodgdon just low balling the numbers for safety?
