Seriously thinking about ordering a Manners T2/T2A or T4/T4A inletted for CDI for my Savage 10FP...it'll make a nice Christmas present from the wife

With my current scope/base/ring setup I don't feel like I have any trouble getting a good and repeatable cheek weld against the A2 Medalist stock...so I'm not sure the extra $140 expense is necessary. Then again, I don't know what I'm missing.

I've got a trip to Kansas City coming up this Wednesday so I may try to arrange a short visit to Manners' facility, which may help my decision-making...but I'm curious to see if other Hide members think an integrated adjustable cheekpiece is worth the $$$.

Re: Manners...adjustable cheekpiece or not?

When I had my MCS-T stock, it mine worked out just fine with only an Eagle stock pack on it. I now have a T3 on order... for 15 weeks now... and I don't have the hardware going on it either.

For as long as my wait has been, I am glad that I didn't have anything extra added to it. But, the hardware would be a nice addition for those not intending on using a stock pack.

If you haven't ordered it yet, it might be a later than Christmas present... the wait stinks, but Manners are worth it!!

Re: Manners...adjustable cheekpiece or not?

Just got my T4A this week. I am very glad I went for the adjustable. I run a 10x super sniper and the cheek piece cam set in the perfect place. Very repeatable sight picture.

Re: Manners...adjustable cheekpiece or not?

Get an adjustable unless you are going to put a Karsten on it. It will increase the resale value if you need to sale it. Also, if you are like most people they will be constantly swapping/upgrading scopes so what may work for you now may not with a different scope. It gives you much more flexibility.

Re: Manners...adjustable cheekpiece or not?

Weight issues aside, I say go for it. You're already on the hook for ~$650, why not spend a bit more and get the options? Not to mention, who knows when you'll put a different scope on?

My Sako TRG is useless to me without a cheek riser, and good GOD, does it strain the neck to try shooting without.

Re: Manners...adjustable cheekpiece or not?

I don't know how I ever shot consistently without an adjustable cheek-rest. My stock of choice is a McMillan A5 though. Nothing against Manners. They're great stocks. Mine has a wheel that moves it up and down and that makes all the difference. You simply plant your cheek bone solidly on the stock and turn the wheel until your eye is perfectly aligned with your scope. Lock it down and go to work. There's no moving your eye around to fill the scope and no parallax issues. I'll never get another stock without one... Although I do have stocks without one.

I'm not a big fan of the Karsten. I had one on my Supermatch M1A and it did the job. It just had to be adjusted and then left that way. I could see that being a little bit of a pain if you have to lower it to get your bolt out. FWIW...

Re: Manners...adjustable cheekpiece or not?

I am in Kansas City today on business, so I stopped by the new Manners facility and Branden graciously spent about 45 minutes with me, allowing me to see their various stock offerings as well as the adjustable cheek piece in person. Explained various features, popular configurations, and paint schemes.

Decision: I'm going to go T4A...just have to decide on a color scheme before ordering.

I use my T2 for hunting, so saving on weight was important to me. For a tactical rifle that you're going to shoot prone 95% of the time, get an adjustable. With all things rifle related, the purpose should drive the specs.

Re: Manners...adjustable cheekpiece or not?

I have a few Kansas City overnights next month & I plan on stopping in to get fitted for my stock. I called & they said come on in & we will take care of you. I am looking forward to it.

Airline? If so are you in downtown, or way out by MCI?

Re: Manners...adjustable cheekpiece or not?

I just ordered a t4a about a month ago and I had the same decision as you. I went for the adjustable because if i dont need it then it will be nice to have in the future if i change scopes etc. and i think more people are interested in the adjustable if i try to sell it.

Also, if i didn't get it and ended up needing one now or in the future it would be almost a similar cost and more hassel if i needed someone to install an adjustable cheek rest for me.

Re: Manners...adjustable cheekpiece or not?

I went with the T5 and non-adjustable stock with 90% composite fill and saved a lot of weight (if I remember correctly 1.5 pounds or more). For me this was important as I will be carrying the rifle a lot in the field. I have a nightforce 5.5-22x50 and cheek weld is great. Had to try and save some weight somewhere as the scope is about as heavy as I would want!
Just another opinion...

Re: Manners...adjustable cheekpiece or not?

Just broke down and placed my order....

MCS-T4A for Savage 10FP 4.4"
Molded-in Desert Sage camo
Heavy barrel
CDI inlet
9/16" pillars
2 flush cups & loops
1 fore end stud

16 week wait means I should have it just in time for spring!

Nice! Its almost the same as the one I ordered back in September. (all I know is that is was my Christmas present to myself because it should be here around that time).

Only Difference is that I got it with molded in OD green.

Re: Manners...adjustable cheekpiece or not?

It's a little different situation since it was a part of a group buy from my local shooting club. Order went in February, came back last month but had to send it back because it had the wrong inlet.

Manners was much faster with the Rem 700 action stocks in the group buy. Guess that's the advantage of choosing a more common action.
