This is my dad. He is a good dad. My dad is a police officer in Wichita Kansas, he's been in law enforcement for longer than I've been alive (over 20 years). Before all that he served as a Marine in Operation Desert Storm during the Gulf War. He has lived his life trying to make life better for everyone else around him, and I don't think I will ever be able to fully understand the mind behind the rock of a man that is my father. I took this photo a few days ago, he had just finished his shift that day and fell asleep on the couch. I know there has been a lot of discourse over the past year against police officers so I wanted to share this moment with you all. Sometimes it's hard too remember that those stoney men and women in tan and blue uniforms are people with families waiting for them to come home, I remember being so scared as a child because when I went to bed at night my dad was heading out the door to go to work, I remember laying in bed every night crying and praying that when I woke up tomorrow my dad would be walking back through that door. I'm still scared now, everyday in the back of my mind there is that fear, that one day I will be at work and get the call that shatters everything I have ever known. It's hard to admit as a military/police family that there are bad cops out there but there are and it sickens me because my dad is a good man, but the reputations of him and every other good cop in this God forsaken world are ruined every day because of assholes who think wearing that badge gives them the right to hurt and kill innocent people. Not all the people who are killed by cops are innocent nor are they all guilty. Not all cops in the world are good (they fucking should be though) nor are all of them bad. I didn't originally mean for this post to be this long or upsetting but fuck I just wanted to make sure people see this because I don't want to lose my dad because of some other man's prejudice
