Re: Multi-caliber suppressor suggestion
..
No doubt your Thundertrap is heavy, its old. If your AAC is sounding quieter than the TT, its very old.
TT cans have been made for 30 years and stayed on top of the curve throughout the same period. Judging between cans requires knowing the production model year of the cans in question. AWC wraped the titanium TT in stainless to eliminate the high freq. ring of titanium. They were comparably heavy (unless your TT is all stainless, then it is HEAVY) until the newest models.
Now they are 100% titanium, the only deep penetration 100% welded, 360 can out there. The issue with titanium isn't just one of lightness, or even frequency modulation, it is the effect of titanium when exposed to high heat. There is only one way to insure that titanium in high round use can sustain perfect baffle fix to the outer envelope and that is through welds that are not just surface based.
Before you write the newest AWC thundertraps off the list. Go and hear one and see it.
Less than 17oz, Full Auto rated. Fieled for 27 years. The unit below is one of the last batch to go to the MARSOC.
Again, are you shooting full auto?
P.S. With an 8" 6.8 round your work is cut out for you finding a can than will really get the job done. Your issue has to do with the balance between modern baffle configuration AND the volume/design of the chamber to do any meaningful suppression on a 6.8 SBR with an overbore can. The same holds true for your SBR .223 if your going to use an overbore can. You have a challenge as most of the cans out there will do poorly on 2 of the 3 configurations you have. Most will say its fine to just mount an overbore can on anything, it isn't, is just barely OK at best with standard barrels, add the SBR and there are only two I know of that will get the job done. Both require a stretch (an additional baffle and chamber). So know you might be saying "But the neat stuff is all going mini", yes they are and they all sound like 1983. Once they go hot, forget it. Also, don't forget to add back into the suppressor weight totals any QB hiders.
Good luck and most importantly, start listening to any cans BEFORE you buy it.
