Looks like 44.8gr of Varget will be the happy place for my rifle. Max load according to Hogdon is 45gr so didn't want to go too far past that to test but even at 45.2 I showed no pressure signs at all.

What was the rig you fired it from?

I am almost curious as to what 45.6gr would have looked like. If it had the same point of impact as the 45.2 it might change my load a little. Maybe I will load some and head to the same range in a bit since the conditions right now are the same as they were the other day.

And throwin them out of a Rem 700 SPS Tac .308, 20" barrel, etc. etc.

Re: My day of load development....

I would load up another 10-20 rds of each on the 44.8 and 45.2gr and see what consistency is like. Make sure it wasn't just good shooting on one, and better on the other from you.

I'd also heat it up a bit more, if your not showing pressure signs. I'd personally want my 175's moving a little faster than that... I'm moving 185's faster than that.

Re: My day of load development....

Loaded up some at 45gr today and hit the range. Fired 11 rounds with the average velocity being 2560fps and a respectable group. I fired 5 rounds at 2 targets, reset the elevation on my scope to the new zero, then one more at a orange sticky and nailed it.

I'm gonna stick with 45gr and see how it treats me at distance. I think the 44.8 might be the more happy load but we'll see. I need every bit of velocity I can with the short barrel.

Re: My day of load development....

With my Savage 43.9 and 45.3 or so were my 2 most accurate charges. Sinse most my shooting is at 200 or less I typically stick with the lower node.

I would have to agree. I give up a little velocity with the shorter barrel but I knew that before purchasing and decided it was worth it for the shorter setup. Plus there is a suppressor goin on there soon and didn't want it to be too long.

We probably only see triple digits 5 times a year in the Valley. Its awesome here and I love it. 2 hours from the ocean, 2 hours from the high desert, one hour from Mt. Hood, 45 minutes to downtown Portland, far enough from Kalifornia that I can't smell it, and I have no neighbors.

And just for kicks, this is my "backyard" that I play in often.
