First, thanks to all for the opinions and knowledge that has been so kindly shared. I am here in Tennessee and love to bench and long range target shoot out to 1000 yds. VERY occasionally a Pig hunt. Gun-Rem 700 5R .308

I have narrowed down to two scopes actually the same scope with two power choices:

Bushnell Elite 6500 2.5-16x42 or the same but 4.5-30x50

Pros and cons gentlemen

Re: Narrowed down to two scopes Help

Of those two scopes ONLY, I would opt for the 2.5-16x42 based on my experiences with them. I recently helped a friend mount one on his HK SR9 and was pleased with the price for value of the scope. The scope was fairly clear (again, considering the price point) throughout the range of magnification. The adjustments were positive and the tracking was spot on. It isn't going to win any awards for the best optics or the most durability or dependability, but they are decent enough scopes (again, for the money).

On the other hand, the 4.5-30x scopes I have used were garbage after about 20x or so. The image after that point was less than good to put it mildly.

When I was helping my friend locate one, the cheapest price we found on a new one, with the exposed "tactical" turrets was from Big River Tactical for $615:

Good luck!

Re: Narrowed down to two scopes Help

Are you saying 2.5-16 over the higher mag because of the quality of the glass at higher mag, or because 16 is big enough to get you out to 1000. didn't mean to hijack.
