Well that pretty much says it, need to know the height of the front sight for the factory ghost rings. I have the back sight assembly to put on a M500 but it has a vent rib so I want to see what I need to come up with to make it work. If it is to much of a pain in the ass I will just get a plain barrel, just trying to have something a little different.

Yes and the answer they keep giving me is that the their front sight will not work on a vent rib. Twice I have tried to explain that I will be using a different front sight but it is somehow to much for them to understand.

It is you who does not understand. But, here's what you need to do: measure the distance from the peep's center to the center of bore; and, then, acquire some sort of ramp post front sight where top of post to center of bore distance is the same X measurement as the rear peep. The idea is to have line of sight and line of bore to be initially parallel. Then, by adjusting the rear peep, convergence of line of sight and line of bore can get a line of departure which provides for trajectory that will allow line of sight and point of impact to intersect at the target.

The sight on my 590 measures 0.867" from the inside of the bore, and the barrel measures 0.106" thick, so I reckon 0.761" is what you're looking for.

Fred thanks for the info it gives me a starting point. Sterling thanks for sounding like a pompus ass. I understand how to get the measurement but the problem lies in not having the equipment to measure the middle of the peep to the center of the bore. The customer service at Mossberg seems to think that using something other than their factory front is impossible.

Or it could be the folks at Mossberg just don't give a shit about your notions for what will get the job done. After all, what have you got when you get what you're looking for? A smooth bore that can get a slug, on occasion, a few more inches at best to center of mass than what would be possible from shooting the bitch intuitively.

Get a caliper, make the measurement for peep, and call Brownells for a front sight which will grab onto your rib. Then, sit back in your easy chair with shotgun at your side. When the cable news channel informs you that Night of the Living Dead is coming to your neighboorhood you'll be ready to make it a very short movie.
