Idea #2: Ditch the 168's.

What do you mean by 'not going too good" and 'no luck'? You didn't state either the problem, the loads you are using, or the results obtained so far. We don't even know anything about your rifle, barrel, twist rate, or what you are trying to achieve. Based on what you wrote, those who want to help you wouldn't know how.

Idea #3: Help us help you.

Re: need help in 300wm

Have you tried RL22 or RL19? For the lighter bullets, up to 180-190 grains, you can try the RL19. Heavier than that I think the RL22 is a better option. Good luck

This is what worked the best for me.

The 190 gr. Sierra MatchKings I tried weren't too bad either.

Re: need help in 300wm

Not sure what you're loading for (end goal).

The 300WM lends itself quite nicely to firing the heavier bullets. Typically decent 100 yard accuracy, excellent longrange accuracy, great energy, with less loss downrange (BC trumps velocity).

I'd try the 200, 208, 210's over RL22 or H1000. These are proven combinations, one of which should run in your rig. LOTS of data out there too. If you're having trouble getting stuff to run, start with the 200 smk. Probably the most forgiving bullet I've ever loaded.

Re: need help in 300wm

hey I went to the range shot some more loads.I ended up getting the 168gsmk and 168gvld to shoot.the smk shot a 1/2" group and the vld shot a .7 something.the smk was pushed by 7828 and the vld with ramshot magnum.as soon as i can get an odrer up or go to a loading supply store i'm going to get some r22,and r19.i'm just not that well equiped for the magnums yet.i need to be since i also own a 300wby imp that a dear friend gave me before he passed away.i thank ya'll for all of your info it has been well needed.John

Re: need help in 300wm

I've been loading 190 SMK 2900fps with IMR 4350 attempting to match the Fed match load and doing OK, I dont shoot it as much as I should - at least after the initial trip to the range which was a learning experience of the worst kind. Brand New GAPrecision 300 WM with AI folding stock woodland MARPAT new Leu MK4 FFP scope, Badger +20. OK lets get on the paper so I grabbed reloaded 190 SMK's (not virgin brass) Bang she locks up and you cant get the spent case out - OUCH. Aparently the chamber is so tight that it only works with virgin brass. She's a shooter but you have to throw her a new virgin every time.
Anyway the R5 should be a 11.25 twist use heavier bullets

God I hope not!

Check the case right above the belt. I would bet they have expanded at this point. Most all sizing dies do a poor job of resizing this part of the case.

This is a classic overpressure sign. I would not continue firing this load. If this is happening at these velocities, I would recommend a slower powder. If you are using a 24" or 26" barrel, you should be able to get 3000fps w/o pressure with the right powder. (The Sierra guys told me that 3000 fps with the 200g smk was achievable with a 24" barrel). I know there are guys using 4350, but I had nothing but pressure problems when I tried to get the velocity up, and that was nowhere near the lands, 3.400" COAL. Try IMR4831, RL22, IMR7828, H1000. My rifle likes nothing IMR, FWIW.

Re: need help in 300wm

thanks guys for all of your replies.the only thing that I hate is that I forgot that remington just chambered this case in a 5r milspec.if I would have remembered I would have bought it in the 5r instead of the sps.but I may still end up with a 5r in a 300wm.I already have the 308,and 223.they just shoot to good right out of the box.and I am still going to get some R22.thanks again,John

Re: need help in 300wm

It's not an over pressure issue I load the same load in virgin brass and we are good to go works perfect use a case second time around forget it. I spoke with George at GAPrecision and he told me I have to use only virgin brass or factory virgin loads. Same reamer as the Navy Seals 300 WM rifles. It's a deadly sob but it likes a virgin.

I stand corrected... George knows more than I do.
