I’ve read and researched a bit on this, next step seems to be talking to a smith who can do this. I have a 7SAUM saami chamber and want to open it up by .090-.100”. Currently the 168s touch the lands at 2.920 and I can run mag length to 2.985. Would like freebore set to roughly 2.990-3.000”

What is the best way to do this, with a throating reamer or just get a finishing reamer with the longer freebore? Barrel is a 24” proof carbon that should get another 1k rounds, I’d like to not have it ruined (groups .3-.5).

PFA & TIA

Throat reamer would be easiest. Any gunsmith can do it if theyre competent enough to do chambers. Whats the goal? If its shooting, id leave it.
Agreed.

It sounds like it's shooting to the OP's satisfaction now.

There's always the risk that making any changes will not make anything any better and can (and in a lot of cases, does) make things worse.

In other words, DFWI.......😉👍

Thanks guys, that is essentially what my developing smith friend told me: DFWI.

It does shoot well, with 162/168 bullets. Desire would be to maximize COAL for better powder/jump management and to be able to run 180s / 166 atips. Sounds like I should leave this hunting carbon alone (animal won’t tell the difference) and just pickup a different barrel for heavies for LR shooting.
