The Democrats appear to have all gone insane to me. Even my own relatives have completely lost any sense of civility or family of unity over Hillary losing. Now this year with Covid and the mask debacle - they are absolutely maniacal. None can be reasoned with, and they wish death upon anyone not wearing a mask if they aren’t flying a BLM or Antifa flag. Insane I tell you!

Our traditional Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings have been cancelled.
This would be AWESOME! I'd much rather hang out with friends

Little litmus test if you will allow me.....

Who pays for the Thanksgiving turkey?

Them?

or

Me?

It makes a difference.

My question wasn't answered. Let's say you mailed it in just before the deadline for mail- ins (if there is one (deadline) in your state) and between that time and election day, you passed away. In other words, your ballot filled out by you is in the mail. How would they know that so your ballot would be invalid? Do they somehow check for that while counting ballots?
Misunderstood the question, understandable as it's a bit (a) rare, and (b) obscure. That's an interesting one ... a little like the question "What happens when an unstoppable force hits an immovable object?". In the situation you describe, where I mail my legally obtained and completed ballot, and then died before election day ... I suppose unless somebody notified the election board of the death, the vote would be counted. That said, in this case, we're not talking about "fraud" and there's certainly no "intent" there. I'd guess that God would forgive me for dying during that critical 10-day span ... and still allow me to enter Heaven based upon the preponderance of good I've done over the rest of my life. But that's just a theory ...

Late update ... this question is answered in THIS ARTICLE.

Not sure what I think about Romney. Like most Silver spoon politicians or billionaires who live for the spotlight instead of representing the folks who work hard, served their country, and pay taxes, I don’t trust them.

Have nothing but respect for your service but on this we’ll have to disagree.
A vote for President is a vote to hire someone to do a job. I don’t care if they’re likable, if my kids or grandkids like them, or whether hes so likable they’ll make Tickle Me Donald dolls someday. I’m hiring an employee, period.
‘Based on resumes, which one you pick?
Likability is an emotion. Emotions are bullshit and usually wrong. There’s a bunch of idiots tearing shit up, burning shit and killing people and cops based purely on emotion. You want to validate that?
If you’re a history aficionado then you’re aware that pivotal points in history completely decide outcomes sometimes many years in the future. Choose wisely.
You mention grandkids. I have 4. You better check 6 because a wrong vote here is going to be damn hard to explain to them in future years.
‘One side offers them a possibility of a promising future. The other doesn’t. Who gives a shit whether they want to emulate a political figure. I would certainly hope not. If I were you I’d want them to emulate you.
We are way, way past where civility matters. Collaboration is a buzzword used by liberals. It means let’s steal whoever’s idea is the best and call it a “collaborative effort”.
If you want intellectual compromises then consider your choice wisely.
One pair of candidates wouldn’t mind ending the lives of unborn children, in some cases those already born, the other would never consider it.
One believes you should keep more of your own money and do with it as you please the other thinks they should have it because they know better.
One side stands for our homeland in every way, the other not so much.
One side fights for what they think is right the other just fights from behind others by innuendo and obfuscation.
One side believes in trade deals favoring our country, the other has repeatedly given our things away for personal benefits.
Due to bringing manufacturing, repatriation of offshore funds, corporate tax lowering and other points we have seen employment go to levels not seen before for minorities. (Using the one sides metrics if you’re against that then I guess you’re a racist lol)
Stock market and individual investments and retirement plans pushing or at new highs. Can’t tolerate the success?
All of the last few things END with the wrong choice in this election.
You want to FEEL good. Go buy some ice cream.
Elections of this magnitude are for serious people with serious thought and reflections. Emotions in the election process are for shit.
This is an excellent response. This election is very important. More so than some seem to think. Personality of either candidate is not what we're voting for.

I was wondering how this thread blew up to so many pages, but then I saw those new members weighing in with atypical political beliefs from the average user. This is the only forum I use now, so I'm curious. Is this happening on all the forums? New members obviously joining to cause dissent? Does it happen on quilting or model railroad forum? I wonder if some of this is that foreign interference we've read about. I really discounted it having an effect on the 2016 election, but in retrospect it seems like it does cause a lot of trouble.

Disregard the rag that wrote it, it is fascinating and to your point.

Apropos of this, it is my firm belief that we should never become like that. The idea of casting as enemies people who see things differently, but act honorably, is a terrible precedent. I might think the dude from Bend is wrong in the way he ranks his preferences in order to get to his vote for Biden, but to call him the enemy is an absurdity. There are plenty of really awful actors out there, let them be the enemy.

Romney is a Judas, pure and simple.

We can see it from the outside, clear as day. Hopefully, more Utahans will be able to see it in time before the next election.

It happens on any forum that allows any kind of political discussions - like clockwork before the big elections. The closer we get to the election, the more these people create multiple logins to try and gain more influence in a thread. Then, like magic - they just disappear the day after the elections, usually. I expect that we will receive a full measure of them even after the election this time - doing their utmost best to stir the Pooh. After all, they’ve got a Marxist Revolution to support.

I’m voting trump all the way! I like the man myself! He calls it like it is! He gets shit done because of his work ethic! He’s not a lazy motherfucker that has lived off of the people! He makes the communist heads explode! Yea, there are times he could keep his mouth shut and he’s arrogant to a degree. But there is not one thing in any way that I agree with the left wing commies! Go trump! Grab all by the pussy, even a lot of so called men have em!

This is my only social media. All of the other social media sites will bash every one each time they get a chance to. Some do use the social media I just don't. This is the way I see it. Trump wins he has 4 more years to do his best to straighten out our Country. Biden wins, he will be declared incompetent to fulfill the Office of the President, cameltoe will be inaugurated as President, our Country will go to hell in a handbasket. Even if Biden does win and is able to complete his term, our Country will go to hell in a handbasket. Trump 2020.

I guess my thought is what if it really is the enemy. We've had members that have joined in the last few months that only seem to espouse contrary ideas seemingly to cause dissent. Just to argue. I'm curious if the liberal knitting forum is bothered by argumentative conservatives, none of which are really American.

Not a new member by any stretch, and I both help and get help on this forum regularly, and enjoy it a lot. The original post asked a valid question, and it caught my attention. I answered it honestly, not realizing it was a trap. Since then, I have been called a Communist, a destroyer of our Constitution, an Antifa Baby-Killer, and been provided instructions on how to perform gay sex on the 2016 Democratic candidate ... that was an odd one. (And those were the "polite" responses.) Through that experience, I've tried to be honest, civil and introspective about my "centrist" independent leanings, and my deep personal concerns about the current President. Participating was a mistake, I freely admit it. I've learned from this to just stick to the ballistics forums. This was one of very few participation attempts in the Bear Pit. Now I know how the forum got it's name.

Actually everyone that I have posted with on snipershide have been very cordial. Beware of wolves in sheeps clothing. They will pull you into their world if they can. No matter how honest you are by sharing your opinion their are those hiding behind a fake name then bash you. Were you bashed on other social media which is why I don't do social media. Too many wolves. Of course do not answer this question.

Wasn't calling you out, Rusty. Not that I agree with you, but you've been here awhile and contributed to the forum. No I meant members who've been here weeks and usually come straight to the Bear Pit. I hope we all recognize those people, often short lived here, that I'm referring to.

i apologize for the "suck Hillary's dick" comment.
i believe this election may be as important as the last.
i respect your service, and can only wonder why somebody that i expect to value the lives of our brothers and sisters in uniform would fight against the one person capable or willing to remove them from harm's way after decades of sacrifice for what amounts to nothing.
in fact, i am baffled and this is reflected in the manner that i responded.

It absolutely appalls me how someone can vote Democrat knowing full well what these people have done to this country. How many bodies do the Clintons have on their hands? Any idea? We know that the far left is funding the destruction of this country as I type this. People say that Trumps morals are to far gone to vote for him? What about Harris and her, “morals.” We know about Clinton and his love for pussy. How about Bidden and his visits to Epstein’s island? Or how about the lefts attempt at destroying Kavanaugh? These people are NOT the ones we want at the helm of our country.

Being likable is more important than being the first president in 39 years to start no new wars, or the 2A, or putting the nuclear football in the hands of a dementia patient, etc... Actually being likable is seemingly the new sole qualifier to determine fitness for running the country..

Apology accepted.

Just to be clear ... Bush got us into these crazy wars. Obama kept us there. Total troops in the theater of operations hasn't materially changed under Trump. The next guy there is likely to be unimpressive as well. I just don't feel like the past 4 years give me confidence that this will change in the next four, regardless of who's sleeping in the Lincoln Bedroom.

Everyone has their "trigger issues" ... this is yours and I totally respect that.

My trigger issue is "honesty" ... enough said.

This is a tough time for anybody with a conscience and a spine. I wish we had different choices. I've been a Republican my entire life, and only switched to "Independent" a couple of years ago when my "Moral Compass" started to flash bright red as it pointed towards Washington DC. I just hope this country I've served and loved can come together and accept the results of this election ... irrespective of how we all voted. Imagine how we will have irrevocably harmed future generations, if ours is the first one that couldn't deliver on the peaceful transfer of power that has been a foundation of our democracy for 244 years.

I may write in my father's name. God rest his soul ... he would have made an awesome President.

BTW ... in all honesty ... the "suck Hillary's dick" thing actually had me laughing my ass off. It was hands-down the most creative insult I received over the last 24 hours.

i want to apologize and again and ask a favor from those i have offended here because they don't like trump. i know i have no right to ask.

i would like to post this story again and ask you to tell me why you would have preferred clinton (and now biden) after reading this.
less than 5 days since anniversary of 9/11, i want you to explain why you support the evil fucking turds (sorry got upset again) that literally armed factions of islamic terrorists that are aligned with the group that killed so many americans on that day. terrorists our guys were fighting in syria.
it is a given that clinton would have allowed brennan to expand the program, while trump quickly ended it.
look at what she did to libya. not a single country where we died is better today than before any of these wars were started.
and pointing at bush is not a defense. bush is a traitor like clinton and obama.

and don't say you wanted clinton or biden, even though you don't agree with what obama did.
with all due respect, that is a cop out like saying you're a democrat but don't like lax immigration policies and poor border protection.
the two are diametrically opposed. it's like saying you are pro-life, but it is okay to kill a newborn if mom decides she doesn't want it.

No apology necessary to me. After everything that all of us are going through. Quite a few going through a lot more than I am. But I will say my opinion on Clinton. During the benghazi incident and when, I will refer to her from now on as "this woman " said and I double quote because I heard it with my own ears ""they're dead what difference does it make "" I blew my top. This woman cares nothing about the lives of the American people. This woman said ""I do not like or want men going off the reservation "". Apologies are always accepted. We're only human. Idiots are tearing up our Country. So for me. It's all good. 😉

I totally agree and understand. At my age I am really concerned for my children and grandchildren. And you are so correct. They, and when I say they, are trying to rewrite our constitution. Take away our right to keep and bear arms. I am pissed about it too. Never in my lifetime would I have ever guessed that our country would get this far. We need to, if possible, take our gripes and concerns to those that will listen to us. May not do a lot of good. But at least they will know where we stand. I will leave this post from a great saying from Charleston Heston..." FROM MY COLD DEAD HANDS "". I have my plan to protect my firearms. That only my wife and I know about.

We're doing potluck this year for Thanksgiving and Christmas. It will only be immediate family. Even though I have been told that I should wear a mask even when visiting immediate family. Not happening.
Who knows..... the way the leftists are carrying on - Thanksgiving might be spent in full kit outside standing guard.

“if voting mattered, they wouldn’t let us do it”-Samuel Clemens
Best line ever. How old is it?
i know from where i live, my vote means jack schiff, but i still want it counted in the popular vote.
there are some districts here where voters only have two democrat scum sucking closet racists to choose from, that is how fucked up it is.

I hope your not referring to me and I don't think you are because I only have one post in this thread but I am new here. I'm new to this board but not competitive shooting, I've been a serious competition shooter since 2013. The only thing that lead me to this board was covid shutting down all of my regular matches so I got into gas gun PRS style matches because there was nothing else going on. I lurked for about a month reading a lot then joined because there is a lot of amazing information on here. I've shot almost every kind of match over the years mainly 3 gun now. USPSA, steel challenge, service rifle, bullseye, sporting clays and trap, a lot of trap in the late 90s/early 2000s. As far as forums I'm a long time member on Brian enos forum and national match forum. Politics is not allowed on Enos and as far as national match forum goes everyone on there has the same political views so there's no point in talking about it.

Unfortunately politics is like a car accident that crashed into a burning Dumpster with antifa kids falling into it and I can't look away so instead of using this forum to learn about long range shooting I'm wasting time reading this garbage (and I mean that in the most respectful way).

I am wondering what you mean by "a typical political beliefs from the average user".

Also, I really wish @rustyinbend would answer my question from my post in this thread. He seems like an intelligent man an I really am interested in his view.

this is kind of long, but worthwhile. note that while it was published in the spring, the story was from 2012.
one of my favorite parts?

I said, “You have the bearing of a military man… am I correct?”

“Yes, Sir… 22 years in the Marine Corps.” I thanked him for his service, something I always do when I encounter a member of our armed services. My standard line is, “Thank you for your service. I think you should hear that every damned day for the rest of your life, and your first beer should be free anywhere you go.”

So we are chatting on the drive, and the story on the radio is Eric Holder being held in contempt of Congress over the Fast and Furious fiasco. I said, “Can you believe that shit? This asshole intentionally sends guns to Mexican drug gangs that will no doubt end up killing thousands of people, and then he lies and stonewalls the Congress? How is this deceitful douchebag not in shackles and an orange jumpsuit? And more to the point, how does someone like this ever ascend to the office of Attorney General?”

“He’s part of the Clinton machine… he knows low people in high places. He came up under Janet Reno… you know who that is, right?”

“Oh, yes, I know… the crazy dyke that gave the order to burn down the Branch Davidians in Waco. But what I don’t get is how they ever thought they could pull this shit off… people aren’t THAT stupid. If you say you are tracking guns, although you have no actual means of tracking the guns, that makes you look both dishonest AND moronic, and your cover story doesn’t make any sense. This didn’t have anything to do with illegal gun sales… any idiot can see that. So what was the REAL plan here?”...

and

“These people are playing with matches… I don’t think they understand the scope and scale of the wildfire they are flirting with. They are fucking around with a civil war that could last a decade and cause millions of deaths… and the sad truth is that 95% of the problems we have in this country could be solved tomorrow, by noon… simply by dragging 100 people out in the street and shooting them in the fucking head.”

All my AR's were lost when my boat sank.
