My best friend and I had been wanting to plan a hunting trip for 2011 somewhere in wyoming or idaho, but it looks like it'll be 2012 before we get to go. Anyways, I had Accuracy Speaks from Mesa, AZ but together this rig for that purpose. I chose this specific caliber after much research because it will easily handle everything from white tail up to brown bear if need be.

Specs:
.338-06 (PT&G standard reamer)
Stainless Winchester CRF action blueprinted
Williams stainless extractor claw
Brux Stainless 1-10, Krieger #5 contour, fluted, finished at 24"
Factory stainless 2pc bottom metal
Manners MCS-T with pillars
Luepy bases, rings, vari-x II 3-9

My only disappointment, and it's purely cosmetic, is that the manners stock does not follow the contour of the rear tang of the winny action.

My bullet of choice for this rig will be the Nosler 210gr partition over varget or IMR 4064, I still need to develop the load.

Re: New hunt rig

Nice rig. Not a fan of silver stuff on a hunting rig personally. See what you mean about the tang/stock mating. Probably would not have noticed if you had not brought attention to it.

More noticeable in person.

Re: New hunt rig

My cousin is building a 338-06 for an elk hunt this fall. Very nice. If you are not going until 2012 I might suggest calling manners up and seeing what they could do or suggest. They are fine folks to work with!

Re: New hunt rig

I really like the silver and green. I just had a 280 AI barreled action built and am waiting for my OD green Manners T2 to arrive. Send that picture to Manners, I'll bet they can do something about that for you. They are all about making it right for the customer. Nice rifle.

Re: New hunt rig

I think it looks great. I personally like a stainless/silver look for a hunting rifle, scope and all. Black is my tactical look but for hunting that is a very nice looking rifle.

It's a really nice contour for the .338. With it fluted it weighs as much as a #4. If I were having another hunting rifle built, anything .300 and below I'd choose a #3 or #4 fluted.

And besides the ill fit in the tang area of the Manners, I have to say the MCS-T is a fantastic handling stock. It just feels REALLY comfortable in all positions.

Re: New hunt rig

For an update, I sent Manners pics and Tom Manners called me up personally. He's having me ship him the rifle, went out today, and he's going to fix things for me free of charge.

Re: New hunt rig

I don't see how this is a Manners problem. I would think it is a pillar/bedding problem.

It great that they step up and fix something that is most likely unrelated to them. I am sure their product was perfect when it left their hands.

I know I have picked up several Manners this year and like the product.
