Phil Kelley broke the glass ceiling in F/TR with the first ever clean at 1000 on the new target. The record was broken at Camp Butner, NC on Sunday, during the NC State Long Range Championships. Phil went on to win the match. Phil is a member of the US National F/TR Team and the North State X-Men F/TR Team. Congrats Phil! Go X-Men!

When you compete month in and month out with the caliber of shooters like the 2012 National Champion and Runner-up, the 2011 National Champion, the North State X-Men and a host of others, you have to go strong or go home. Winning an occasional club match is a big deal at Camp Butner.

Hopefully Camp Butner & North State Shooters Club will be rewarded soon by bringing the F-Class Nationals back to the east coast.

BTW - I believe the F-Open 1,000 yard National Record of 200-15x was also tied this weekend by Mike McGill. There was some great performances this weekend.

...For sure! When I was in Lejeune I shot there every month (when I wasn't deployed). Probably one of the friendliest places to shoot with more talent (for the that discipline) I've ever seen in one place other than Perry.

I'm actually moving back to the SE to shoot at places like that again...

One of the guys I shoot was trying to clean that target as well at the Missoula regionals but he pulled one giving him a 198-9x. One of the surprises was one of the Army Snipers using a M24 with well over 5k rds, straight 10 power leupold was able to get a 186-5x.

Anyhow congrats to Phil!

Congrats Phil! excellent shooting for sure. And that kid that put up the 186 with the m24 and box M118LR ... he had one bad relay all weekend that I saw ... kid put up some sick numbers.

One amazing score deserves another. Now that folks know it can actually be done, the heat is one for more. It give real hope, more power to all.

that is a amazing score indeed, 20 sots at 1000 under 1 MOA. There is hope afterall to better it.

Thanx for the specs asbestosglove, I was more intereted in his rifle than ammo.

It can be sub-MOA, but if it isn't all in the ten ring, it's not doing what it's supposed to be doing. I don't care how small, if it's out of that ten ring, it's not helping one's score. There's more to LR than just group sizes.

That said, this score is far beyond my own abilities, and my hat's off.

Greg, The "shoots .5 all day as long as I do my part" stuff is pretty much a running joke with the guys I know who shoots F-TR on a regular basis. "My part" is actually the hard part.

Funny thing about shooting for record, you don't get to forget the oops, the shift you missed that put one in the 8 ring (or worse), the change in wind angle that took that 4moa wind to a 2moa wind, or the letoff that happened while you were in the scope and dropped it out the side, or the ever frustrating "where the hell did that come from". Yea, shooting for practice those are just a shot here and there that are pretty easy to forget, in a 20 shot string that goes on a score card it's amazing how fast they add up to 15 points dropped.

That only took what, 5 yrs since they changed the target for the first one? We've got better bullets in TR now than we did in the past, and there have been a number of folks flirting with it. I've seen or pulled two 199s from the pits in the last yr, and there are more and more people playing the game. I still think they are going to be pretty rare happenings.

Damn fine shooting.

Correct, damn fine shooting.... we have a " list " of 15 or so "reasons ' why we didn't shoot a clean, and most dovetail with the above post. Just my .02 worth. And Oakridge is one fine club and shooting range.
