Built by Surgeon this rifle shoots Awesome!

Built in 260, 8.5 twist, 26" barrel
7-08 brass through 260 die with .289 bushing
4831SC
47.5 gr. gives SD 9 and ESD of 30
CCI BR2 primers
Berger 140VLD
0.008 off the lands

Targets of 100yd load develoopment, then 200yd. and 300 yd. of the 47.5 load new neck down brass - not fireformed yet, so i expect to be more consistent with 2nd fired brass.

Re: New Rifle, Surgeon Scalpal

Sorry, I had to see if I could get the pictures to go then i updated with info. That is 100yds. of course. This rifle clearly shoots better than i can expect to shoot (consistently anyway). I have only had it about a month and this is the end of my load development.

the 47.6 looks tighter...??

Re: New Rifle, Surgeon Scalpal

The 47.5 is fairly consistent with an avg. at 2799 fps and yes the 47.6 was much tighter but it also had a 17 SD and a 44 ESD so I think the 47.5 is a little better. I am still playing though so maybe I will fine tune it by adjusting seatng depth and bushing. I am happy with the OAL of 2.875 and it loads into the magazine with no problems.

This is my first custom and i am absolutely amazed at the accuracy in load development. Cant wait to get it out to longer ranges.
I can tell you that this rifle is worth the two years it took me to save for it and more!
I can also not say enough great things about the guys at Surgeon. They put up with endless questions before, during and after the rifle went into production. These guys are better than all the good things I had read about them.

PGS ; The bottom Metal is very solid and I really like it.

Re: New Rifle, Surgeon Scalpal

If you really want to test it out at distance...there is a 1000yd F-Class match this coming Sunday 5/2/10 at Bayou Rifles in Houston.
PM me if you want the details.

Re: New Rifle, Surgeon Scalpal

Have no idea ...funny story....Surgeon had this one the two others in stock but if I wanted something different it would be an extra 4 mos. on the build...I took what i could get figuring this is a mild enough cammo that I could get it done differently later if I felt the need.
