I'm guessing that you bolt gun guys are the best ones at handloading .308's...so here are a few 'duh' questions for you that weren't answered in either of my 2 DVD's, manuals, etc.

I used a tiny bit of lube on the inside of the necks during sizing. When loading powder, a few grains 'stuck' to the inside of the neck due to this lube. Is this usual?

I measured a total OAL of my FGMM 168's at around 2.78 inches. Max OAL is 2.81 per my loading manual. I used a factory loaded FGMM 168 to get the right height on the seater die, and this height yielded 2.89 inches on my AMAX loaded bullets. I think this is because of the little red-dealie on the end of the round. Should this be accounted for in OAL or does it not 'count'?

'Duh. Thanks.

First the powder will get "pushed down into the case as the bullet slides along the inside of the neck. I would be more concerned about using the wrong lube on the inside of the neck contaminating the powder. There are several "dry" lubes for this procedure if you find you need the lube to begin with. Next it is more important to find how far off of the ogive you are than OAL. I don't really like using OAL as a little damage to the tip would make a big difference in the actual distance to the ogive to the throat.
This was just asked a day or two ago.

I'm sure the mods will move it for you.

First off get the lube off your cases before you start loading them. Toss them in the tumbler for 5 mins will do it.

Max OAL in books is what works in 99% of the rifles. And yes the red plastic tip does count as it is part of the bullet. Also get setup to measure off the O-give of the bullet as that is where it matters the most. OAL off the tip of the bullet only matters for magazines.

I just type to slow sometimes!
